Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Fuck sake City. Why oh why do we have these random games where we slow everything down and make it incredibly easy to defend against? Villa done a proper job on us today.

Savinho and Bobb doesnt work, they are prospects, starting both is crazy.
pass pass pass, about 28 passes to get over the halfway line, sick to death of watching the " Come dancing " football to many of the team are not ready, or not good enough, stones is as quick as my mother.( i
Just Typical City innit.

Miles off what we were, I’ll take Top 4

Why won't Pep ever call a poor performance out?. There's no way he can call it a good performance yesterday without blatantly lying through his teeth. He mentions chances we created, Erling's in the first half and the Savinho chance 2nd half when I think it would've hit the post, that was it. Laborious build up play yet again just added to the ineptness of it all.
Hopefully a few choice words were said in the dressing room at full time

He won’t do it in public and throw the players under bus, the hacks who like writing shitty articles would love that and use it as an attempt to sew seeds of division. Pep does it behind close doors, the players who didnt bother turning up yesterday will know about it from him.

The amount of stick Sterling got as a winger. But at his peak he was levels above Sav and Doku. He and Sane were spectacular for two seasons.
True but none of us could envision what was to come at that point, back then we were winning most matches so it didn’t really matter. We keep going on about wingers and savinho is bang average less so doku who at least tries to get past a defender but I think we have problems in every position bar Donna and big earl. Nic orielly has looked good until recently, he lost the ball in villas box and just jogged after the Villa player and he’d only been on for five minutes.
For some reason probably confidence our players don’t want to pass forward
The very few times we do the receiving player just passes it straight back instead of knowing what’s around him and turning with the ball. Our midfielders just stand there with the ball looking for a pass but no player is ever free to receive as they are hiding behind opposition players so the ball goes sidewards. All in all we are a disjointed mess. Most worrying for me is peps team selections, my biggest concern is reinders
We had high hopes for him to be another Rodri especially after that great first game
Since then he’s looked bang average.
You could write a story about every position
Bar the front and back.
Take Man City name from our team yesterday and you could be watching any mid table side in the league.
Has pep lost his mojo? Does he care anymore and happy to bow out with a top 4 position?
I guess we will never know but if he keeps selecting players that we all know are not city quality it can only be to protect whoever’s decision it was to purchase them
Anyway onwards we go it’s gonna be a long tough season with many performances like yesterday but we must get behind the team
Whatever the result.

That was fucking shit. Everyone knew what was coming when the lineup was announced again! 30 seconds left and we are pissing about with the ball at the back. If haaland isnt firing we are absolutely clueless. No better than last seasons shit that performance
sick to death of watching peps come dancing football, 28 passes to get to the halfway line, to find out the opposition are all organized. bobbins, stones has been one of our best, but its like watching margaret rutherford in a blue shirt.

I'm sure Pep wouldn't have played that team if he had a fully fit Rod, Khus, Nico G and Nico O.
We have looked better when they play but if they are injured or not 100% fit then what can he do.
Josko as a central defender is a much better fit than him playing full back and makes us much more solid.
Hopefully they will be back at weekend and then we will see how we play.

You know what gets on my fooking tits .............the obsession by certain media outlets of how many touches haaland has had in the box ??????
Has any other striker had this bollocks brought up time after time ??????

Stones was pushing into midfield...he struggled. Gvardiol was very sloppy in the first half. Nico did give us nearly a half.

Kova ain't a 6
I don't disagree that Stones/Gvardiol weren't great yesterday, but for me either of those options at DM to give us some physical presence (Or Kova/Nico/Oreilly) were worth trying over what we actually went with...

With Nico nearly giving us a half, surely the sensible thing would have been to start him, get the half from him. Would have given us more chance of not conceding the first goal early ish (which we did). Very tough game to come back from then, as it proved.

And this isn't hindsight, said the midfield was very lightweight to my pals in our whatsapp group as soon as the team was announced.

The first 90 seconds from the tip off we didn’t cross the half way line Villa hardly pressed us then Gavardiol puts it out for a throw mid way in our half. It’s shite football to watch even when we are winning it’s shite and frustrating to watch when we are drawing or losing

If we were honest in our assessment of the squad and put a column of proven quality consistent players on one side and inconsistent/not good enough/not yet proven in the other. One side would be very long indeed. Then throw in that we seem to have nothing but niggling injuries then its not a surprise that we are quite a bit away from our best.

The club have to be careful here we've seen what happens to other teams that end up with a lot of average overpaid players in the squad. They are hard to get rid of and it adds a malaise to any decent players you have or can bring in.

If some of these recent signings dont improve quick then we are in trouble.

Since the summer of 2023 how many signings have we made that you can say for definite have been a success?

Ah you're one of those posters that only post when we lose.
Careful flower, don't let the mask slip.

Nunes is more understandable as he’s played out of position and actually puts in a fair few decent performances. Savinho and Bobb have been wank pretty much every game. As unlikely as it seems, maybe Pep could have got a tune out of Phillips if he had shown the blind faith in him he shows in others. Foden is a luxury player but unfortunately the only one who looks like creating a goal.
The fact anyone considers getting a tune of out Phillips shows how desperate we are.

I wouldn't let him hum happy birthday.

I would prefer City to play football. Set-pieces are part of football but for some teams it is the only way that they can score goals. I do not like the way that corners and long throws have come into the game. The blocks, and foul play at corners are a farce. They are effective but that's not football for me. I prefer City to play like PSG, or Barcelona. That's what we should focus on. Teams that spend hours on the training pitch perfecting corner routines might regret it in the long run.

I prefer City to score goals and win games.

I don’t care if that’s after 50 passes completed with an overhead volley or a long throw to the box bouncing in off someone’s arse.

Winning is all that matters. Doing it nicely is a luxury.

I wonder if our coaching is at a poor level nowadays as well. You look back to when Arteta and Maresca were here and how well we were playing, and Pep's old mates he had at Bayern were highly thought of.
You look now at the level of our players in matches and nobody besides Erling looks to be improving

I thought the guys brought in from Liverpool would see City play a quicker more direct game.
City are still playing this boring slow build up, so why bring in this two coaches ?

Think quite a few people are stealing a living at the club , whoever it is scouting players they need firing , our injury record has become a joke .

That’s unrealistic and not going to happen.

How long is a piece of string?

Maybe the players are not the right players? These off days and injuries seem to be regular now. No such thing when the team was winning.

Cant have it both ways. What level is ok with you? That’s the question for each poster? This current level is not good enough. The club has started to lower the level required to win constantly. Over time we need to find it again. Starts and end with recruitment. Not good enough.

It takes time to build togetherness and learn each other's game, We are talking about 50% of the squad that are new to the system and understanding the Pep system. How many from last season's winter transfer to the summer transfer windows have had plenty of game time because of injury,

Key players have had long injury periods like Rodri, Foden, Khusanov and then Marmoush and Cherki, Ait-Nouri
So that means more pressure on the squad having to play players that are not fully match fit 3 times a week.

The one thing that needs looking at is the right back role and Nunes being the only choice at the moment
The recruitments are good enough because, before the game yesterday everything was rosy and City are back

9 games into the new season is not the right time to question the recruitment, after 38 games and all the cups games you judge the recruitment by were you finish. Also, the City fans have to lower their expectations and not think we should be champions every season,
