Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Our corners are baffling. It seems they are such a big part of other teams games now but yet we just seem to persist with the same type of corner time after time. Not enough pace on them and always Foden taking them whether left or right. I’m struggling to understand why.

Like mentioned elsewhere Dias hasn’t scored one goal in the last 3 seasons yet we have had around 600 corners in that time.

Just checking set piece goals this season…

We have none! We sit 20th in the table. Even Wolves have 2 and they are 19th!

Chelsea have 9 and Arsenal 11.

We are paying someone for this shit too! Imagine getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds and then delivering this!
This is actually kind of insane... how, mathematically, are we that bad at set pieces, and like you say, someone is getting paid to work on this. Everytime arsenal get a corner the whole stadium freaks out, ours does too but or the opposite reason

Spitty was taking the piss out of Richards calling him a Villa fan live on air yesterday and the clown Richards didn't correct him he just laughed and behaved like the useful idiot he is.
Well what do we expect with sky?
Pick the only player to make a **** of himself and city at the same time.
They must be loving it.

We are desperately lacking a midfield enforcer, a real hard man.

Most of our team are far too nice.

During the treble season and winning four titles in a row... when did he ever need a 'real hard man?'

This is 1990's football and should be left there.

this is such bullshit I don't know why people accuse me of this, go back to my comments and you'll see that couldn't be far from the truth.. I am sick of the harrassment i get from you people don't you have anything better to do?
Do you know what mate your right. I do think you are over the top with criticism sometimes but now we’ve all calmed down I apologise.

We have so many of them and they’re all a waste of time. What’s going wrong?

I thought the team selection was baffling tbh
If Nico was not fit enough to start, he looked it, then give Kov a start to have a playmaker, Bernie was leggy from midweek
Savinho played midweek so for me Marmoush should have started, likewise Doku rested midweek start him over Bob
Reijnders not been great since start of the season would have played foden and Cherki with Nico holding

I would prefer City to play football. Set-pieces are part of football but for some teams it is the only way that they can score goals. I do not like the way that corners and long throws have come into the game. The blocks, and foul play at corners are a farce. They are effective but that's not football for me. I prefer City to play like PSG, or Barcelona. That's what we should focus on. Teams that spend hours on the training pitch perfecting corner routines might regret it in the long run.
Totally agree. It's becoming a match where two defences of ten decide the outcome by who can deliver it a corner under the bar and get away with fouling the keeper. It is a farce.

9 games unbeaten…we are back!
Lose 1 game…..everyone is crap we won’t even get top 4!
Yeh I can see what your saying and your probably right but I think the reactions including mine are a combination of many things. First of all we just don’t pass the eye test anymore even when we win, secondly most of us would have seen a great chance to fuck off the naysayers with a nice win considering chelski and the dippers losing
Also the scum putting themselves on the same points as us would piss us all of aswell.
All that hard work getting us back near the top to then see a toothless timid performance like that can dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for this season. So stats wise you are correct we are a load of moaning bastards but anyone can see we are miles off it even after all that recruitment.
Top 4 this season for me would be a great achievement all things considered.

You will get great odds if you wanted to bet we would finish outside the top 4.

Other than Arsenal everyone is losing to anyone this season and Wolves are losing to everyone.

We are nowhere near the standard of a couple of years ago but I think we are the second best side in this league and that’s where I think we will end up too.

We were so good in the past that a good City side is unfairly compared to unobtainable standards.

Obviously without knowing the specifics regarding fitness issues, there are many on here who thought the team selection to be strange.

The midfield was always going to be an issue against the Villa midfield. Reinders is simply not a no 6 and is not robust enough, Stones added nothing, and Bernado had played in midweek. We were always going to be overpowered imo.

And with Bob and Savinho providing so little, our attack created few chances.

The positive is that they only managed to score 1 goal.

I am one of the first to complain about losing and wonder how Savinho gets so much game time.
But after a couple of hours and letting off some steam, I realise it's pointless and an overreaction from a glory hunter that I have turned into,

It's got to take time for Pep and the new rebuild and i expect more new faces over the next 2 transfer windows
Yes, we are not the team we once were ? maybe we will never see the likes of trebles and multi-title winners again

But i have a feeling we will not just lie down and fall away completely, even this season we could still be right in the race once everybody gets fit and game time under their belts

This defeat left me quite despondent as it felt prior to it that we’d turned the corner, got sharper and got our rhythm back.
I fell quite stupid now for thinking that as Villa are not an extraordinary team but we lacked badly against them all over the shop.
So many times we were bullied off the ball and we barely challenged the keeper despite all the huff n puff. So disappointed with Bobb and savio as well.

Rodri frequently injured. Out.

Nico G. injured - and not even a true 6 - and out.

Facing a very tough side.

The result isn't unexpected at all IMO.
It’s how you lose that irks many blues on here including myself, we are a soft team with many players accepting defeat without putting up a fight.

Kind of played out as i expected to be honest. I thought we’d probably lose were coming up against a fairly decent team with legs so we’d struggle. Was still hopeful of the win as with Haaland you’ve always got a chance. Just not been convinced watching us at all on the run we’d been on despite the results.

Think the tactics played into Villa’s hands really so that didn’t help

We can talk about the midfield but the main reason we didn't win that game is because we're reliant on Haaland to score goals because no one else in the team can do so regularly.

It also won't change drastically any time soon. It will be something the club will have to address next summer.
