Marmoush was marginally offside on his cross to Haaland
Where was the semi-automated offside graphic?
- Oh it wasn't active due to the AWS outage from a week earlier.

Where was the freeze-frame drawn out lines?
- Oh it wasn't deployed because the replay clearly showed an arm was offside.

Since when is an arm sticking out count as offside? You can't score with an arm, so it shouldn't count in an offside decision.
- Oh it was dismissed by VAR ever so quickly.

Terrible result but we have played worse and won . The premier league this season is a really strange one every team is inconsistent apart from Arsenal who are scraping 1 nil wins here and there .
Our biggest problem imho is the form of our wingers ……… they both absolutely do my head in !

Didn’t realise how consistent Semenyo has been 3 seasons in the prem he’s been a consistent goal scorer. Improving every season. We’d be stupid not to try for him only 25 as well

1st season 8 goals 2 assists
2nd season 11 goals 5 assists
This season so far 6 goals 3 assists
Ah, but can he run down blind alleys, tackle himself, beat the same player three times and then fall over, and delay crossing the ball until the defender can block the cross easily? - The big question asked by whoever recruits our wingers.

On the stream I watched he was leaning forward as the ball was played to him and his head was offside.

Bad day at the office. No defensive midfielder that’s actually a defensive midfielder made it very hard for us. I’d have started Nico and taken him off when he’d had enough personally, not the other way round.

Bobb, Doku and Savinho aren’t it. I’m not singling them out for this performance alone but all 3 were shite and created next to fuck all. Bernardo wasn’t great either nor was Foden.

Really lethargic performance after the first 15 minutes or so and simply didn’t do enough to win the match. We didn’t do the things that have been working for us. Nico O’Reilly has to start every game he’s fit for, as does other Nico until Rodri is fit again.

The signing of Donnarumma seemed to give everyone a lift but yesterday’s shitshow has taken the wind out of our sails. The next real test is Liverpool who are likely to find form and take us to the cleaners. Maybe the whole 115 thing has fucked Pep, the sooner it’s done with the better.
Liverpool have never taken us to the cleaners. Even at Anfield we have been very competitive despite being repeatedly screwed over by the refs. They have a dismal record at Etihad - they did win last year but we were in total disarray and even then they parked the bus for 70 mins after scoring early.

Anybody notice Villa’s back 6?

We’ve seen this many times and 2 low bloc’s have been the way to try and counter our football over many seasons. This season, teams have tried to attack us as they did last season, when we were injury ravaged, and since those two early losses, thought they could get something by going toe to toe. Villa didn’t, with Emery going the complete opposite way, preferring a 6 man defence and choosing to go long and hit wide, when they could.

I wouldn’t say that they were the better team, we both defended well, we attacked better, but they got a goal from a superb shot.

It worked well for Villa, and we need to evolve in our partnerships and ensure we don’t get done with individual brilliance.

You very rarely get innovative corner “routines” that flummox the opposition and allow for a clear chance a la Stonesy’s near post tap in a couple of seasons ago. I think corners are more about attitude, bravery, a desire to get to the ball. Someone like Big Sam coming in as a special set piece coach could instill that desire in the players

I hope you are right but at the same time not because if it’s about bravery it feels like that will be harder to change.
But I do think we have players that can make a good corner and players that are good in the air. It feels we are missing the player who can score from distans Rodri is good and he is also good in the air.

We're still essentially playing the painfully slow and dreary, endless sideways passing style of play that's been so comprehensively sussed out by our opponents, this style of play definitely isn't conducive with providing wingers with the space they need to utilise their pace and trickery.

You can only beat what's in front of you and that's what Villa did, whilst frustrating it is a blip imo. Villa played well on the day and we sometimes forget to give our opponents credit. They celebrated the defending like they'd scored a goal at times and rightly so.

I'm sure we will continue our positive form and be right up there against the pretenders next May.

Agree with you here. Those really are wide forwards, and they just don't really seem to be what we recruit, for whatever reason.

We have out-and-out wingers (Doku, Savinho), or creative midfielders (Bobb, Cherki).

We're possibly looking to have Marmoush playing there on the left, but he doesn't seem totally comfortable with it.

We need more goals from the wide players, but it seems like their job is just to stay wide and try and stretch the defence to make space for our midfielders to run into. Well, you can tell how well it's working by the amount of goals our midfielders are scoring...
Exactly I don’t see much difference of when Grealish and Bernardo were our wingers.

Marmoush on the wing looks cringe because he can’t dribble let alone beat his man.

I honestly love looking at Bayern and Barca with how they treat their wingers. PSG are great too but they’re on a different level. I mean their fullbacks assist each other

Our wingers non end product when in good positions is contrary to this opinion

It was a good shot, but a similar shot from us wouldn’t have found the net. Villa’s determination to block everything wasn’t quite matched by our own defence.
Spot on ...... we can all put our hands behind our backs and stand off players who are about to shoot .... but real defenders act quickly to get in their faces, confront them, and put them off their shot at the very least.

Actually the next real test is Bournemouth next week.
Unless you're at least 10-15 points in front at the top of the table then EVERY Premier league game is a test that you should be putting everything into .... they all yield three important league points if you win them, and the rags have just proved that you can absolutely zoom up the table if you win a few games!

You can only afford to 'comfortably' drop the odd league point if you've already created a sizeable gap where any loss isn't really gonna impact you all that much ....

But, because we flopped at Villa, we're now in the tough position of having to overcome two very good teams just to keep ourselves within touching distance of Arsenal!
