Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

An excellent performance to be proud of.
So I was at the game and haven't seen the penalty back.
I've heard comments like 'he got the ball but then got the player afterwards so it's a penalty'
WTF?
Also seen comments saying it wasn't a pen.
So blue tinted specs off and considering we won..
Was it a pen?

Wow, didn’t think it was going to happen which makes it all the more fucking sweet!!!

Can’t believe we only used one sub given the nature of the game but it’s certainly turned out nice again!

Watching back some of the chances we missed it should have been more comfortable.

Puts us in a great position in the league now.

Was the on decision a clear and obvious error? Would that have been given at certain other PL grounds in a similar scenario? I don’t think so. Maybe there’s arguments both ways on a pen or not but once ref hasn’t given it VAR should be nowhere near this IMO.
In real time and just after it I assumed there was no contact or Ramsey had tripped himself up.
Even by both his and Dias’s immediate reactions I thought we were in the clear.

When you watch the replay it was very different

It was clumsy and Dias barges into him. He slows his run down to play for it yes but I still think it’s a pen

Morgan Rogers is a petulant baby too. Moaned every time he fell over demanding a foul and then making some snidey fouls.

Wasn’t impressed with him tonight at all.
I said to the lad next to me, ‘is that Bellingham?’ Same attitude tonight, seeing his arse, moaning at his teammates, falling over and running after the ref, leaving one on our lads. Petulant Brummie fool.

They did look organised at the back but we played practically the whole game in front of them so we hardly pulled them around the pitch.

I thought they offered very little going forward - apart from that run from Rashford they hardly got forward in the second half and the subs didn’t really make a difference for them. Other than that big lump getting skinned for the winner that is.
D'you think?

We nearly caught them in possession a couple of times and the break out ball was fluffed too.

I didn't think they looked that comfortable at the back.

I expected them to be much better than they were, not complaining as we deserved it.

Just back in from the match. Two observations. First, I thought the run of Palace (who’d won 6 on the run away before us), Everton and Villa was a really tough run, to win all 3 is excellent. Secondly, all those people who sang after the winner, try doing it a bit more often, it really fucking helps
Third observation, sorry Pep but Bernardo is not a right winger, but a deep lying midfield playmaker he most certainly is

I thought it was tactically excellent from Pep. And the effort and intensity we played at was great.
It was all about whose build up would work better.

Both teams defended really well and nullified each other for the most part, but Cash and Disasi got roused by our wingers one each and we scored from both.

The got through twice and Rashford missed both.

That just left them soft penalty.

We played pretty well tonight. We’re just missing killers up front.

Did anyone see the guy on the floor getting CPR outside the arena? Didn’t look good and was in full view of everyone.

Pep has said in his post match press conference that since the Bournemouth game he likes the formation we started with today. It is the most solid we have been this season. We struggle to create much, but by the same token we are not conceding much.

Villa played very strange tactics. They have the players to open up but instead played a low block. I expected them to be more adventurous than that because they needed to win more than we did.

This was a really good team performance. An absolutely brilliant cross by Doku for our goal. That was a match-winning moment. Pep said after the game that over 5m he is the best player in the world, and he is. He needs to more composure but there is every chance he will add it as he is still young.

Very poor atmosphere in the opening minutes but it livened up in the 2nd half.

Not sure if the right thread but there was a blue receiving CPR on Joe mercer way after the game. Not what you want to see after the game! Got everything crossed he was OK
Saw the blue lights flashing near the co-op as I was queuing for the tram..hope he's ok too..

'Give him green grass to run into and he's unstoppable".
OK Roy then why did the rags get rid if all they play is hoofball?
Rashford - social conscience - I'm not arguing with that - it's good. But as a player, an attacker - 28 next birthday - 89 Prem goals in his entire career - ten years in the first team - is truly pathetic. But he plays with the attitude of someone who thinks he's way better than he actually is.

If anyone fancies a laugh have a read of Jamie Jackson's crayoned match report in the Guardian - the biased ****. Thankfully we ruined his night and Rashfords.

That just isn't a penalty either. Ramsey jumps at Dias and forces the contact; it's not given as a penalty on the field and there is no clear and obvious error either. If you've played the game at any half decent level you know what Ramsey is doing, forcing contact to manufacture a pen.

O'Reilly again superb I thought, Bernardo looked so much better and a huge +3 given ours and Villa's positions, and the amount of games left. Doku's best showings seem to come in 15-20 min cameos against tired defences, and again tonight he impacted the game and set the winner up. KDB sadly again lacklustre highlighting again that the Palace game was a rarity and not a renaissance.

Am assuming Emi Martinez isn't giving it the big hard man after tonight's game. All in all a very pleasant evening out (said in a Gary Barlow voice)
