Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Another game that should serve as a lesson to those fans who bemoan Pep's starting 11. If this was a season we were fighting for the title we'd be focussing on results not performances and the same is true this campaign. We've got a job to do and it's about the 3pts not about how well we play. He's sticking with older heads and whilst the performances are still miles off it and we spend large parts of the game completely sterile he got the game plan right. Keep the ball and the opposition can't score. We wore Villa down, Pep injected some pace in Doku and we got the 3pts which on the balance of the game we deserved.

There's been a lot of criticism levelled at Pep this season and some of it is warranted. But other than beating Arsenal away last season, Emery's record with Villa is abysmal in away games against the top sides. They were toothless and clearly trying not to lose the game more than to win it.
Yes indeed they will need to sort that issue out if they wish to push forward and really challenge. This was probably the performance of the season all the old heads put in a shift and our improvised full backs both had stormers. We should cement top five from here. If we can rescue a cup win Pep will have pulled this season out of the fire big time.

Why the fuck was Dick playing for a draw?

In order to claim a Champions League spot, Villa needed the win more than we did, so why have Martinez waste time like he did?

The Brummie twats got exactly what they deserved; fuck all!
Its mentality. Its why PSG knocked them out, its why they came to us as the inform team in the prem and played tactics like a league 1 side, its why whenever a big game comes around they will revert to what they are. Villa have just smashed Newcastle and everyone raving about how well they are playing and turned up at the champions and decided to try and cheat their way to a point.

We hear him all the time, it’s the only thing he shouts!! Not sure if he’s taking the piss half the time.

I appreciate everyone supports their team in their own way, but he is constantly negative even when we're comfortably winning.
As I've said in another thread, I'm sure there's a section of society that are only happy when they have something to whinge about.

We all said the same at the game, surely we were there for the taking if they had any balls about them. Not once in the game did they try and force us back and take advantage of pressing our slow midfield. Very bizarre tactics and they got what they deserved.

Obviously Pep was pretty happy with a point too, hence not throwing more subs on, however there was only one team who were even remotely trying to win that game.

What a surprise Pep knows something about football.
Great control last night, he has diagnosed the issues, treated them, even if the remedy lasts until the end of the Season. A sticking plaster team maybe, but Dr Pep has turned it around.
Maybe he is cupping his hands at the Dad's Army fraternity.

Well happy with that last night, they showed a desire and fight to get it over the line which was missing for most of the Winter. Sky Sports pleasuring themselves over Rashford, they can’t help themselves can they? If Haaland did what he did in the first moments of the game they would be analysing why he should have done better. We proper pissed on their chips.

Anyways it’s the first time City have won three league games in a row since August/September. Let’s hope they can keep it going and get it over the line for Champions league football next season.

He touches the ball first and then the 2 players ‘come together’.

It’s not a pen imo but I’m still not having it that Neville and all the “Ooh” isn’t having a significant impact on VAR. Him and Carragher and ensuring games are refereed differently.
I don't like how they can hear the VAR Comms and we can't.

We hear the commentators telling us the VAR decisions all the time on coming togethers etc...

I do wonder if they can hear the live commentary at Stockley park as well.

Rashford - social conscience - I'm not arguing with that - it's good. But as a player, an attacker - 28 next birthday - 89 Prem goals in his entire career - ten years in the first team - is truly pathetic. But he plays with the attitude of someone who thinks he's way better than he actually is.
Wonder why that is. Could it be something do with the media freak show blowing smoke up his arse just because he played for the rags?

Exactly. Big teams try and win games like that - see Arsenal when they came for a point when they were going for the league.

Great result!

Not the best performance, but I thought we did enough to win.

Penalty decision was an absolute disgrace and Pawson was Villa's best player.

Horrible bunch the Villa fans are. The arrogance of a trophy-winning team without the trophies.

We all know what a fickle fanbase they had throughout the 70’s and 80’s. And never forget that FA Cup game at Villa Park when they had large areas of the ground closed!

Expect more nasty behaviour in the final, like the last time, if we both get through.

By far the most satisfying result of the season. It wasn't the greatest performance but the effort was definitely there and you can't ask for anymore than that. On another note who chooses the boots for the team? as by fuck we had a lot of players lose their footing last night.

Was the on decision a clear and obvious error? Would that have been given at certain other PL grounds in a similar scenario? I don’t think so. Maybe there’s arguments both ways on a pen or not but once ref hasn’t given it VAR should be nowhere near this IMO.
