Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Villa are an excellent side with very good players all over the pitch: City are not the team they have been for the last ten years. Literally! This is true but was startlingly, joyously irrelevant last night. City were without Rodri, Haaland and Stones which would rip the heart out of any team but Ederson, Akanji and Ake couldn't play. Thus 6 of the eleven who won the treble only two years ago, in 23 were injured: Bernado and KdB are supposed to be too old and so the "experts" opinion was that Villa would be too "dynamic" for City to cope with. Not outrageous but simply miles from the truth in the event.

It was not a vintage City performance and some of our passing was sloppy but I really admired our will to win, our sheer determination not to lose. The style of old was not there but the attitude and application were admirable. And fittingly the winner came at the very last gasp engineered by a superb cross behind the Villa back line from a player often criticised for his final ball and hit home by a lad playing out of position and often lambasted for being caught out of position. Not last night! When it really mattered, like the rest of the team, they really stood up to be counted.
I really admired Mattias Nunez for showing the character to appeal for the ball from Jeremy Doku. He could clearly be seen with his hand raised. He could have hidden after his mistake led to that dubious penalty. I'm really happy for him. It reminded me of Richard Edghill who also used to get a lot of criticism but stepped up to take and score the penalty against Gillingham.

I don’t think there’s any chance of it , we can’t can’t afford 350k a week. We may have PSR troubles again if we don’t get CL , which is looking very unlikely now.
time you're owners started shouting out about bent rules and showing some balls .Forest are every chance getting top 5 and not a peep about stupid rules broken last season because they know only brought in to stop one team and the rest collateral damage as yanks call it

Hahahahhaha what a reach!!

We’re at the point we’re congratulating a £53m player for putting his hand up?

Edgie was bulled to fuck by the main stand and booed. Nothing like what’s happened to Nunes - every week people think “why the fuck is Nunes playing?” but he’s had no stick at the games compared to what Edghill got.

Stepping up to take a penalty in a final, after what just happened earlier in that game, was proper leader material and Edghill was class for that. Putting your hand up to ask for the ball is nothing like it.

They're a bitter bunch of cunts Villa fans. Dine off that European Cup win and think they're the biggest club in the world even though most of their success was in black and white. You'd think they sold Villa Park out through thick and thin the way they talk. Truth is they've had a lot of success but had plenty of dark days too and a lot of fans didn't turn up, like with most clubs. If they accepted things as they were rather than being so bitter about our success they'd be more tolerable.

When your greatest ever PL player is Gabby Agbonlahor you need to wind your necks in.
Most of their trophies were filmed on a Camera Obscura never mind in black and white

Rashford ran Man City ragged last night apparently.

Please explain why Pep starts McAtee (a distinctly average footballer) over a match winner like Doku, that's two home starts for the lad in recent weeks and he has missed 3 sitters, the guy has no presence on the pitch. Made no impact in the PL last season at Sheffield Utd.
Mcatee gets into some very good positions far more often than most of the other midfielders, unfortunately his finishing is a bit gash at present, maybe he gets a case of the yips when he's 1 on 1, who knows. I agree though he needs to make more of an impact, hopefully as he gains more experience that will come, because there is definitely a player in there.

Doku is far more effective coming off the bench than starting. He runs full backs ragged as they tire (or in last nights case when they're built like a brick shithouse and have the turning circle of a supertanker). When starting his effective contribution is more often than not negligible, usually because of his decision making. Maybe having a little extra thinking time late on helps that issue too

Remember this game.
arsenal level of home support against us.

Very good win against Rashton Villa.
Imagine the jizz on offer if NOR was a Rag or Dipper. Landed for Nunes who has had untold grief on here.
Slimy Stone’s match report was more about Pope Findus than anything else.
What now for Marcus? Can he really settle the bin strike? Will Madrid come calling?
How someone so bang average can be so fawned over? Oops I do know really.
Love this Club.

Only Wolves have won more points than us over the past 5 PL games - and we've had some tough games in there, on paper at least.

Definitely seems to be some fire there again now.

Not to overstate his contribution, but it can't be coincidence that's it's hand-in-hand with NO'R spending more minutes on the pitch, can it?

Knock-on effect obviously with him being there allows Gvardiol back into the centre, too.

Feels like we're on a run for the first time in 6 months

My mates a Walsall fan and Villa are hated in the Midlands.

He also says Brum City kick the shit out of them when they meet and thinks that why they are all gob shites.
I know two brothers from Brum.

One Villa and one Brum.

I had some hilarious texts last night before, during & after the game.

Being out with them both down the years I think you're right Brum do kick the living daylights out of them home & away whenever they meet. Villa attract a lot of outside Birmingham support and that's why they are really hated by all the Midlands teams.

The red cartel loving media are polishing that turn to a mirror finish.
All in the hope the scum can get some decent cash for him.
Apparently he’s been great for Villa.
He’s scored 2 PL goals for Villa, 2 and one of them was a pen.
6 in 25 PL games this season.
He’s fucking shit!

Delighted for Nunes, works his socks off and never hides.
Very soft penalty which was never a "clear and obvious" mistake, God knows why that VAR clown felt it worthy of review....should be investigated that.

Should be able to get enough points now to cement our top 5 place.
GK coach - please teach our two GK's when to charge out and when to stay in the box, every bloody week one of them makes the wrong decision.

McAtee has been great in recent weeks, Scored againt Palace. Doku's been ok for 20 mins out of two games

How is it that the opposition goalkeeper is allowed to time waste from the word get-go and the moment ours does it (not often), he gets booked? Gets right on my tits that does!

Anyway, great win that. Disappointed with Villa’s approach but heyho, testament to how a lot of teams still regard us. However shite the season has been!!
As frustrating as it was ,he wasn’t really wasting time though was he?
Don’t get me wrong he was definitely trying his best to take time out of the game as Villa had come to keep it tight and then go for it in the last 10 minutes,
But if you watch it back it’s one of the defenders that invariably took the dead ball and passed it to Martinez ,who then took and age to kick the ball /pass it out of the area?
But by then the ball was in play so he could take as much time as he likes , shithouse tatic by Martinez /Villa but totally legal !
It needs a rule change ,something like unless he goalie is carrying an injury ,he should be the only person allowed to take the dead ball kick ?

Until then ,teams are always going to abuse it
