Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

One thing I really respected about Pep is that from the off he emphasized focusing on each and every match. Not playing for the trophy at the end, but simply playing to win each match one by one. That is a winning mentality. No match is beneath us.
except for his last one today! Im sorry but i Lewis and Savino
Domestic Cups are from the toughest and biggest league in the world. The Europa trophies are midtable bollocks.
I don't think that's really the case anymore, a lot of teams at the top and those looking at a relegation dog fight play second string teams... that's why you get a div 1 side in last 8 and championship side in the semi's these days.. so it's definitely not a priority for a lot of clubs

On the train home still feeling very sad and really don't know where we go from here and what the future brings, today for the first time in over 50 years of watching city I didn't care about the result

Think you’re undervaluing our 2 domestic cup wins
Nah, i was there for both, loved the league cup win against that boring lot, but the esteem of the cups has lowered, clubs virtually drop out of it by resting key men IF there's any danger of losing Prem pts the next week..or any European game... makes the cups a bit weaker imo..not in you'r which is fair enough//like arseholes n all that, we all have one

Expect pelters but I think that team was a disgrace for paying fans.

Ever since the 4-in-a-row and turning up to the FA cup final against the rags hungover, the team and Pep have shown they can accept defeat. Some of Pep’s lineups (today included but also Leverkusen etc) have shown he accepts defeat.

That mentality creeping in is why we haven’t won the league this season and the new manager needs to find a way to re-instill it.

The Europa Lg finals in the last two years have been betweeen 15th and 17th placed teams in the PL, Villa after beating the 16th placed team in the PL to get to the final, and a Freiburg team that finished 42 points behind Bayern in the Bundesliga.

We beat Newcastle Newcastle Liverpool Arsenal and Chelsea to win this domestic Cups who were all CL teams this season.

The Europas are a joke.

How? Explain to me, without using supposition. I'll wait.
We have just seen what a section of our squad plays like this year...not one game...this year and it ain't been great even with the best manager in the world...now without him and a squad that contains quite a few players that are not at the level required....this all matters. Plus losing Bernardo who has been great this year.....and you don't think today's performance means anything?

That we may and I agree, but the meeja control the pecking order, and tbf euro bollocks is the way its going..as for Spurs, soon as they were safe in prem they rested all key players hence they were 17th.. any danger of going down their best players would have played prem games... its a simple case of where priorities will go in next 5 - 10 years and we may see a very different domestic set up re league and cups

The media control fuck all.

A game which meant nothing to either team, 3 weeks before a world cup, managed by a manger who's leaving. As far as assessment criteria...it's not the first game I would choose.

Not just one game, not just this year. If we’re being honest out football has become stale and frankly, a bit boring for the past couple of seasons. It’s been said many times that we’ve lost quite a few World Class players and replaced them with less than World Class. We’ve “made do” at full back (both sides) and have frequently been overrun in midfield. We can’t continue to rely on Rodri alone.

Bernardo is going to be a big loss. It’s time to get rid of a few of the underperformers in the squad and invest in some World Class talent.
