Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Good first half, looked like city of old. Second half switched off, left a few behind today, should have been 5 or 6. Still 3 points and lessons learned. Roll on Wednesday.

Great way to end a tough week. Prefer a back 4 though and think we’re a better defence without Akanji.
He’s been involved more than could probably have been expected. Started off great and has tapered off especially post World Cup.

A few posters have identified that he is piss poor in the air (and I think the stats back this up), that was criminal not getting his head on the ball prior to the Villa forward smashing it off the bar.

Hopefully Ruby is fine and ready to go on Wednesday

Kyle Dias Laporte Ake has got to be the back line for the arse.

First half was good (not as good as we have been in the past but much better than recent)

But i can see how Pep questions the passion of this team...there is a lack of intensity or at least a lack of ability to maintain the intensity

Rodri clear MOTM

I hope Pep doesnt try that system against Arsenal - we will get beat if he does...Bernardo Silva is a talented player but he was having to do way too much defending in defensive areas....I feel Pep has again tried to shoehorn too many players into the midfield to make up for the lack of legs we now have in there with the ageing KDB and Gundo (who both played well, esp Gundo - KDB faded badly as the match went on and again was guilty of giving the ball away on numerous times.)

Walker - is he fully fit as it doesnt seem it..running slightly awkward and no where near full tilt.

Hopefully Haaland isnt injured though he aint getting any service at present at all....made numerous runs but our players refuse to play an early forward ball....Gundo also made a run at one point in the first half and he didnt get it either.

A 6/10 performance based on where we have been in previous seasons

Very encouraging first half display.

Rodri was particularly impressive after a horror show against Tottenham.

Asssuming Dias and Haaland are fit, I’d like to see the same team start on Wednesday.

cut out the sloppy passes in the back. Walker first half, Akanji 2nd half too much at stake to give away balls so cheaply in dangerous areas.

otherwise good tempo mainly first half, but we need to turn it up anther level vs Arsenal. we cannot lose that game, but we also need to try to win it.

Crowd absolutely fantastic. Well done everyone.

Bernie deep works. Links up play and gets the transitions going from deep.

Dias & Laporte/stones needs to be playing if we are to win the league. Akanji is a good player but the drop off is clear as day and 1 of the reasons we started to look under pressure second half.

Get the cb’s on the pictch and we will run rough shot over the gooners.

Tough week ended with a bit of joy.

As for the coms, ignore blatant racism stoked inflammatory words. City are here to stay.

Soriano looked down in the dumps.

Up the mighty blues.

Excellent in the first half and comfortable in the second half. Much better performance than recent weeks.

Only worries are Eddie conceding with our first shot on target once again and Akanji being weak as piss in any contest with the attacker.
