Pep Guardiola has confirmed Ukraine defender Oleksandr Zinchenko will be out for more than a month after undergoing knee surgery.

He said: "Zinchenko had contact with the knee and felt something in the bone. He has to stop for four or five weeks. He had (surgery) to clean the knee."

Guardiola also said midfielder Rodri would be out "until after the international break" after picking up an injury in Tuesday's Champions League win against Atalanta.

The Spaniard, who had been covering in defence, pulled up with what looked like a hamstring strain.

The next international break will take place in mid-November, meaning Rodri faces up to four weeks on the sidelines.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to accept the credit for Raheem Sterling's evolution into one of the best goal-scoring midfielders in the world.

England winger Sterling, 24, has scored 16 goals in 17 appearances for club and country this season.

"All the credit is to Raheem. We talk as a group, the quality of everyone helps the rest of the players. The credit is to him and the rest of the players. We dream of players getting better, month by month, season by season."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says 'everyone wants to play' and that time is required for young midfielder Phil Foden to improve.

But Guardiola says Foden is not alone in wanting to play - and that it will be another few years before he gets close to his peak.

"All the guys say the same, all of them," he said. "They all suggest they should play more. I understand it and they are right.

"For Phil, between the ages of 19 and 23, every season he will get better.

"The quality is there. He is a fighter and has an incredible work ethic. One day he will get it."
