Aston Villa Thread | 2025/26

If City don't win the Premier League this season, then I wouldn't mind Villa winning the top division for the first time in almost half a century.
The amount of piss boiling from Arteta and Arsenal would be off the scale, coming second four years in a row would be immense, literally the perennial bridesmaids to three different champions.
I'm with you and I'm no Villa fan. Their supporters are worse than a bulldogs breath after a bowl of Winalot.

Watched the highlights. Villa were lucky - a combination of poor Chelsea finishing then poor Chelsea defending + a handball that should have been a penalty to Chelsea. The commentator said 'it was close enough to his shoulder not to be given' fuck sake it hit him on his forearm! Their is no doubt they are in the title race though.

I’ve watched most of there games it’s rare they outplay the opposition they like play dead till Emery makes his subs

Let’s hope it’s all over by the time we play Villa at home on the last day of the season. I couldn’t do another title decider on the last day of the season, especially if we lost the title to Villa at the Etihad. Hypothetical ATM, but possible.

I have often asked myself what team I wouldn't mind winning the league if City didn't. Dippers no, tarquins no, rags...obviously not. Villa? That's a no too!

So we are just going to have to win it!
Exactly . Going back to the eighties I had a fond spot for Everton , always good banter , and for Sunderland or Sheffield Wednesday, who had loyal support without having much to shout about , but I loathe all the teams within sniffing distance ATM .

But think about winning it against Villa on the last day and taking it away from them. Would be stressful but amazing. Savinho winner in the 93rd minute - peoples heads would explode!

Another City title decider on the last day of the season ?

But City are ‘boring’ and a ‘juggernaut’ that means ‘no one has a chance’…

They are definitely in it. Wouldn’t be the end of the world if they won it, either. Got to be better than Arsenal winning it, surely.
Depends on the Villa fans you know I guess. I work with two. One is sound and sensible with only a love of the naffer 80's music as an annoying trait. The other is a mouthy git who was boasting that Villa would win the quadruple last season and posts those annoying "The silence of xxxx fans is sponsored by Aston Villa" on social media every time they win. If we don't win it and Villa did I would be happy for the first guy but would probably have to kill the second one.

Yes, there are plenty of both sorts but none of the latter are in my orbit. I realise you can’t always choose who you work with, but wherever possible I try and avoid having people like that in my life, as they are sinfully tedious and life is too short.

Most of the Villa fans I know personally would definitely rather we won the title than Liverpool (although not necessarily Arsenal) but I also recognise there are plenty of haters out there amongst their support, just don’t encounter much, if any of it personally.

Probably helps that I’m decent enough at robustly standing my ground in any argument which probably heads some stuff off at the pass. Plus I don’t work in an environment where I’m required to play office politics for the benefit of my career. That probably helps too, as I don’t need to play the game as much as others may. Must be terrible stuck working with someone like that and having a mortgage to pay.

I do hate xG but it has its merits, and apparantly they are massively overperforming based off their xG in games (im not going to look ot up, but saw comments about it)

Often when something is unsustainable it gets found out, but they look pretty good at the moment

Not even halfway through thw season though yet, lets see where they are when we are around the 30 game mark

"A new winner every 7 years..."

Villa coming from behind and beating us on last day* would be nearly as good as 2012 for the 'brand'

*Handed the title by dodgy VAR decision.
