Atletico (A) - Post-Match Thread

I really enjoyed the game, it was almost the exact opposite to the Liverpool game. Yes Atleti employed the dark arts, but so we did we and Ferna coming on gave us a level of shithousery to match theirs. I have no issue with the way Atleti play, if every team played the same it would be boring.

It was a tough game though and we were magnificent at what we are normally never given any credit for, that is being resolute, defending properly and keeping calm under pressure. I loved when Phil was assaulted near the end, Zincho was straight into protect him, that showed the togetherness of the squad. Stones was magnificent, special mention for Ake who shored things up superbly when called upon. The workrate of all the lads was superb, you would never see Mahrez tracking back for Leicester how he did last night for us.

I believe last night was one of our great European performances, it was mature and we showed we could compete and overcome adversity

Just hope Kyle and Kev are OK for the Semi, the other lads will be battered and bruised as well, but we have Semi's coming up and we need the character we showed last night to keep at it.
Apart from that mid-air body check on Foden by Felipe (that’s a Sin Bin in rugby league, so how he wasn’t booked I’ll never know), and the one he did get booked for on de Bruyne, I thought all the darks arts were done and won by us last night!

We got right under their skin.

Epic night. Could barely watch at the end as my nerves were shot. Went to the bathroom to clean my sink when it was already clean. Looked at the telly again and it was still going with 11minutes added time played!

The iconic Jack moment was something I'll never forget, class!

That **** Savic must be on steroids or something as he was a nervous shithouse when he played for us.

Proud as fuck of our lads. Onwards and upwards.

Our time wasting near the end was epic, not seen us do that since Bernie away at utd. To see simeone losing his shit at our shithhousery warms my cockles, about time we showed that side of our game.

Watching the Atletico fan video, had me changing my view of Atletico's tactics at the end. Like others I had wondered at the red mist wasting their time and stopping themselves from finding the goal they needed - and last night I was happy to see it happen it seemed like they knew they couldn't score so just resorted to violence.

But I now wonder if it was a desperate attempt to change the course of the match - they had tried playing football in that second half but still couldn't find a way through - so now try and disrupt City's concentration, or whilst the referee is starting to throw cards around draw a red card for a City player. And even with ten men they created two good chances and were the team who had most of the ball through that 11 minutes extra time. If they had scored - the narrative would be different - City bottle it against disprutive Atletico.

It didn't work - City held their discipline, saw the game out - but just one goal would have been enough to allow them to return to ten man block and play it out for penalties - perhaps there was calculation in those last tactics.
