The “match day experience” is so much better when the atmosphere is good, like yesterday. This is what the club need to wake up to. Anyone who paid good money to be there yesterday will have had more of a buzz from the passion and noise from the stands than they will ever do from a ridiculous light show or deafening PA. That’s why the club should prioritise creating the right conditions for an atmospheric stadium. Not only will it satisfy legacy fans (despite what they want, we’re not going anywhere). It will also bring in the type of fans that they want, the ones that will spend money, as they will want to be part of it. It just seems crazy to me that the club just can’t see this.

When the young debutant let them in for the first goal the earlier raucous atmosphere could easily have dropped off. But after a minute of contemplation the crowd got straight back on it and cheered the team on.

It also led perfectly into skips tribute, which was the best ive ever seen and put a tear in my eye.

Football is changing. Saw a poster say hes happy with a bovril pre match. Kids dont even know what a bovril is !! :))

Football fans like to think of themselves above shows like yesterday. Makes them feel like ‘massive blues’. You have to be careful not to stray into dipper attitude, calling fellow fans out for singing “youre mot singing anymore” , as tho it makes them better not to.

Just enjoy it. Its a bit of fun.

Yep, cracking atmosphere last night. I think it was the perfect storm of a comeback win, playing good football, and a 5.30 kick-off that all contributed. Good to see the ground still reasonably full towards the end as well.

Fast, exciting football, creating chances, and goals, helps to create a better atmosphere.

You can see the difference at Liverpool this season, even their own fans have commented on Anfield being quieter. Slot plays a more patient build-up to Klopp and doesn’t have his team press like men possessed, and as a result (and possibly also due to more non-core Lpool fans in the new AR 2nd tier) their atmosphere isn’t as good.

Atmosphere was excellent against us, mind.

Yes, thought the North Stand were really good yesterday.

They were, they started a stadium-wide ‘We’re Not Really Here’ at one point. I notice that when the North Stand belt out a song, their larger numbers than the singing section in SSL1 are much louder than SSL1.

Well i see the shithole in Salford seems to be getting public money for their transport and surroundings be nice if they tried to sort the transport out at our ground considering our owners invested…

Its not my job to create the conditions myself, but if I was in a well paid full time job for City I’d have a damn good go at it.

Things like prioritisation of key areas for vocal fans over corporate and hospitality, ensuring large groups of tickets that they give to their online agencies aren’t in vocal areas, strong organisation of the new North Stand with atmosphere as number one priority instead of corporate, an area for 18-25 year olds, new season ticket releases each year for groups of young supporters in vocal areas, keep the South Stand going as well as the North Stand, stop the ridiculous PA’s like they did in the derby to let the atmosphere grow, get rid of those stupid electronic fan flag boards and allow real ones to be hung again, have real consultation with fan groups, especially 1894, whose main focus is atmosphere, ban half and half scarves in the stadium, so the ground is more partisan and less welcoming to opposition fans. Those are a few ideas off the top of my head, I don’t think they’re too far fetched and there are many more ways they could set the conditions, so atmosphere could organically grow.

I’m realistic - tourists are part of the match day fan base, same for corporate and hospitality, but I see no reason why we can’t have large strategically placed areas with large numbers of season ticket holders / local fans to help the atmosphere thrive. If they really wanted it, there’s no reason we couldn’t have it.

Whether you think the atmosphere at Anfield is good or not, they've done a very good job of marketing it as a place you've got to go to one day, just to experience the magical Anfield atmosphere (eye roll). This strategy sees tourists flock over there to get to a game.

Our club have this idea of what the "matchday experience" looks like, which to them revolves around Light shows, high quality football, tasty food in the ground. In reality, a loud and intense atmosphere is more likely to make people fall in love with City, rather than a few lazers before the game.

I know we can’t play two new signings every week which added to the atmosphere yesterday (everyone was buzzing to see Marmoush), but you’re spot on.

We have the fanbase to create a great atmosphere, we just need to get the organisation and set-up right to have it consistently. There are ways round having hospitality, corporate and daytrippers who pat more around areas like 103-106 and 201-230, to allow NSL2 to become a proper home atmosphere stand. They can sell my seat in 105 for £2,500 a season if they want when I move to NSL2. But let NSL2 be for fans like me, across the board.

If we had a big drive now coming from the club, Supporters Club, City Matters, fan groups etc. for the next six months and promote it as our City Wall/Wonderwall/Blue Wall/93.20 Stand/Great Northern End… it would end up being that.

Not all those in the current singing sections have to move away from their areas if they want to stay near the away fans, but get a number of them plus all of us who are signers but not already in a singing area move to NSL2. If that happened, we’d have the best atmosphere in the league.

A big proper atmosphere stand that looked like this, would be arguably as marketable as the football team:



Imagine the noise from that if it was a proper atmosphere stand on days like yesterday afternoon/evening!

If it ends up being a bit of everything and therefore a bit of nothing, with no big drive by the club to make this something special, it will be a fucking massively wasted opportunity.

I’d genuinely be gutted to be honest.

I hope so looking at the new extension from my seat in CB1 its not difficult to imagine from the rake of it how it could easily fill the ground with noise. Really does look impressive.

Atmosphere was excellent yesterday, all around the ground. TBH it usually is for 5.30pm Kick-Offs on a Saturday because a large percentage of the crowd is well oiled by a few pints - we also all know the boys need us badly as its been a grind this season. The crowd responded - we need the exact same on Weds though that might be difficult as its often a very different crowd on CL nights

Always found the Jambos sound, great up at Tyney and thousands at Fleetwood pre season all over the ground and in the pubs no trouble at all even though they lost heavily.

Hearts have got a fantastic support (and Hibs). They are generally friendly and good-natured and a lot of them follow City as their second team. Totally different to the Celtic and Rangers mobs.

Hearts, the best Club in Scotland. I’ve still got my Strongbow sponsored top from a long weekend in Edinburgh. I doubt it fits these days though!

City have committed to filling half the expansion in ground capacity with flexi-gold type season cards. Somewhere between 3K and 4K.

If that is true that'll be nowhere near enough unfortunately.

With an additional 3000 we'd still not be above the 40,000 we had pre-Covid, despite having a 7000 higher capacity.

The general consensus on here seems to be that we now have around 36,000 ST holders, so 4000 have been lost since the pandemic. The decrease is no surprise given they last sold gold STs to members in summer 2021, whilst pricing many out through annual rises.

At the very least once this stand is open there should be more season ticket holders in the stadium than there were 5 years ago. Though of course, many more season ticket holders are not in the club's financial interests when they can sell the seats for £50+ most weeks, and £300+ as part of an offsite hospitality package for the biggest games.
