Atmosphere 2024/25

Palace needed something to happen atmosphere wise. Their attendances were shite, there wasn't much of an atmosphere at their games and the fanatics have done a good job. It's a modern approach, they do good work in the local community but they're 100% looking for social media clicks with what they do as well.

The drum is okay, it's certainly not as bad as elsewhere. Their songs are simple and easy to join in with and compared to what Selhurst Park used to be they're miles better thanks to that group. Wembley was pretty incredible. When you think Forest also hadn't been in a long long time, outnumbered us but yet were largely out sung by us - Palace have shown what can happen with a decent sized group of fans orchestrating things.

However...it's also important to add that they still travel in low numbers and aren't particularly good away from home. They've stepped up in home games and at Wembley but we're miles better in away games.

I think the biggest thing City can improve on is song choice. Our songbook is still fairly complicated for the neutral and home games. If you've got a singing section audible around the ground it would work, but not when different songs are started at the same time.

Blue Moon, we're not really here... that's about it when it comes to the simple stuff that isn't about a player. I know we're not at Maine Road anymore but haven't heard an airing of super City from Maine Road for a long time. That used to be another one that would spread.
I wouldn’t call it modern. Italy has had Ultras with their banners, marches, uniforms and all that for 50 years. It’s probably older than the Casual scene.

For this country I mean. They're not ultras in the Italian fashion of being organised hooligan mobs. They're more MLS ultras looking for social media likes and looking to generate an atmosphere. But when it came to atmosphere on Saturday they helped create something superb. Rightly we want ours to improve but it's also important to provide context, because Palace aren't the same away from home. We definitely outdo them in the majority of away games for numbers and noise.

Whatever the reasons we were dross on Saturday.

I realise i'm in a minority but I thought the atmosphere from City fans was decent on Saturday, at least in my block 518. Not the best, not as good as the semi, but definitely not the worst we have had at Wembley. I think you can get a varied experience of noise at Wembley. I have always found the upper tiers (with the cheap tickets) ok for atmosphere. I was singing all the way through. But perhaps it was just the pre-match five pints in Baker Street that distorted my reality.
Thought the first half was awful but second half definitely did pick up a bit at times was a nice blue moon as well

Don't compare anything in English football to MLS.
MLS doesn't count it's a nothing league with plastic shite fans

I'd describe the Palace fanatics as pretty MLS mate. Drums, tifos, jumping up and down, white tshirts, organised meet ups and clean ups. Screams MLS. But when they produce an atmosphere like that, which I doubt has been bettered at Wembley you have to think about what you could do to improve things.

The "go with the ebb and flow of the game" argument simply didn't wash on Saturday. Even when relieved of their second goal we didn't respond.

I'm not suggesting we get a drum and copy their every action.

It started in Brazil in 1950. Torcida, Hadjuk Split’s Ultras brought it back from the World Cup and introduced the concept of organised fan groups to Europe.

I was in 522 & it carried round from there a fair bit, there was a good few lads who stood up every time a song got going, it’s kind of your job at Wembley to carry the songs round the flanks otherwise it falls flat before it can get going

What makes them plastic ?, they are at the grounds supporting their teams, not their fault their teams aren't 100+ years old like over here. This word plastic gets banded around too much, were the first few fans at Hyde road classed as plastic back in the day ???

Were most of your lot sitting? I think the whole of the lower stood for the entirety, certainly the whole end, not sure about the sides.

Yeah, they like the profile, and have an image to project/protect for sure. It's all got to be edgy, for instance you'd never hear them sing "we're by far the greatest team" or suchlike, nothing generic.

There's a smaller group now in Block W of the Arthur Wait who sing too, maybe 50 blokes. Sometimes separate, sometimes in unison. It still works tbh.

Yeah, was a really mixed bag of young old & coke/ket/piss heads :) I think Wembley need to offer family areas for these games, get the kids & FOC’s in accessible areas where there is less standing, and more safe standing in the uppers, I could see the Palace fans down that side (lower) and they all remained standing for 90 minutes

I watched the game back yesterday and they did 6 different songs in the first 18 minutes, the best ones are the more simple ones with fewer words.
I couldn't agree more. Imo our best chant is the most simple one: City!City!City!... when it's belted out after a poznan it can get quite loud and intimidating. Same with Madrid, Inter, PSG, I felt their loudest and most intimidating were the short ones that spread fast and everyone can join. When you want the atmosphere to die a death you start Dzeko or the stone roses.

Anyway, off to hopefully watch the Scousers beat Shighton, and their ultras.

Always a lot of hand-wringing after a defeat and when, as a fanbase, we’re probably not at our best.

It was a strange one on Saturday. I met up with a group of mates and none were overly optimistic, it definitely felt like we were fighting against history.

On the positive side I would never begrudge Palace fans their day. We have had so many, the best days of your life, and so I’m happy another fan base got to enjoy it and they seem a decent lot overall.

As for our fanbase we don’t half give ourselves a hard time. I’ve been a season ticket holder 15 years (going 40) and hardly get a sniff of away tickets, yet a few weeks back Palace could not sell out half of our away end. Not a dig at Palace, football is expensive, but just highlighting what a great following we have. Also there fambase has fluctuated massively dependent upon what division there in, where as ours, when tested, stayed steadfastly loyal.

Let’s not be too tough on ourselves. We’ve packed out Wembley again for the 20 plus times over the past 10 years. Travelling down at 8/9 am in the morning, spending a shed load of money, stuck in a blazing bear pit of a stand, with zero cover and watching a match and performance which felt like so many others and the game felt over once the penalty was missed.

One of the strangest sights was watching Palace fans head to Wembley Stadium station straight after the match. Incredible to think they missed the trophy presentation and celebrations.

I’m still not over the toxicity and negativity of our so called ‘support’ on Saturday. I was quite frankly appalled by the comments around me directed at players and Pep, and from what I’ve heard and read since it appears it was everywhere in our end of the stadium.

Let’s hope tomorrow night can restore a bit of faith in our fanbase that we haven’t just turned into Rags from the 90s+00s just because we aren’t giving people the reflected glory that comes with trophies.

Let’s have a supportive and positive atmosphere at the game. Get behind the lads and Pep, don’t just stand in silence unless you’re calling the players and manager cunts, twats and fucking shit like on Saturday.

Congratulations Palace always enjoyed my trips to Croydon and a few sherberts with Palace fans round Thornton Heath. But next time they come to the Etihad suggest we greet Dean Henderson with chants of CHEAT CHEAT,CHEAT

I agree we were in 505 and it was decent, considering the performance.

It's absolutely ridiculous some of the shit that's being fired at Pep and the team.

An Evertonian mate of mine told me on Sunday as Rooney walked psst the Gladys St he was greeted with chants of " United are Shit". The granny shagger must have been so proud.
