Atmosphere 2024/25

A much bigger game? You are right because of the financial rewards for the club. But for me, and obviously quite a few other seasoncard holders, European football does not hold the same appeal.
Playing Bruges midweek in a bloated Champions League group game will never be bigger than playing a competitive Chelsea team on a Saturday afternoon. I’m glad the tourists don’t agree
Gave up the European games a good few years back, hold no interest at all for me. As a previous poster said the Orient game is far more interesting.

It was decent in spells, quiet in others. It was full of tourists around me and they did their bit joining in with the anthems. Many times songs died a death because there were two different ones going at once or they couldn’t be made out above the away fans. It was a good example of an atmosphere that would have been miles better with one singing end.
Two ends are better than one.

I don't do CL games, too many reasons to type this early in the morning but at all Prem/domestic cup games I make a racket in SS3 or SS1 when moved so maybe I'm part of the problem.

What did bring home how quiet it was last night (and I know microphone position & volume can work wonders) midway through the second half I could hear on the telly 5/6 kids singing City City.

2nd half was better.

As per, call it an excuse, CL crowds are different to PL crowds.

Loads of Brugge fans in CBL3 abd ESL3 were waving their mobile phone lights in the air.

Let’s be fair. City’s 1st half performance was absolutely dire. There was nothing exciting at all to get the crowd going.
City's (Pep's) first half performance killed any chance of building a rip roaring atmosphere.

Cheese & chalk in the second half even with 20.000 CL tourists.

Additionally, if the fans and club want a consistent noisy atmosphere, changes will have to be made to the location of the 'singing sections'

Three separate sections SSL3,SSL1 & ESL110 have never worked effectively and never will.....different songs, different rhythms from disconnected areas.

At or before, the opening of NS2 all singers, particularly those in ESL110, should be given priority to relocate to NSL2 or SSL3 to create space for the relocation of away fans down to ESL110/111 and the creation of an exclusive City end in SSL3 & SSL2.

Achieving this along with NSL2, will create to big City ends under acoustic roofs and be the set up most fans have wanted and waited for since the original stadium opened.

Simple, low cost, restructuring with huge long term benefits.....the racket could be superb !!

What defines a legacy fan please ?
He meets some of the following criteria

Local
From a family of blues
Attends several games a season
Pre dates the takeover
Boos the CL jingle
Never sets foot in the club shop
Isn't offended by fans swearing / singing / standing up at games
Is offended by half n half scarves
Has a ticket stub from York away
Leaves before the end

That's me.....apart from the early dart.

Am I a legacy fan or just a traditional die hard City fan ?

Not sure about this one "Isn't offended by fans standing up at games"

And likes to debate the virtues of the barm or muffin enigma.

From my own perspective at the back of 115, I thought it was quite poor in the first half. We tried to get loads going from where we were and although fans joined in, it wasn’t always in big numbers. Better in the second half as you’d expect. Not that I’d know for the first 15 minutes or so as - and this could go down as a too much information comment - I had the trots and was stuck on the bog FFS! I heard the roar for our first 2 goals loud and clear from the cubicle though ;)

I must add that I wasn’t too impressed with the Bruges fans either. We often can’t hear 110/111 singing from the back of 115 until it’s too late because the away fans in the middle are making a racket but last night a fair few songs started in 110/111 and we could hear them loud and clear from the off which enabled us to join in.

I was sat behind a group of about 30 kids at the back of 305. They were in some school party. Their enthusiasm and noise was amazing. They kept up a chant for the entire 2md half but it was very annoying. It was complete nonsense and jibberish but at the same time quite amazing. I was shocked about how bad the atmosphere around the ground was. Usually 115 takes the lead and everyone has the key to join in. I assume the singers didn't turn up last night or were distributed all over the ground. In my opinion the tourist comments are a bit out of order. We had 30,000 non-regular fans there last night but not the regulars in place to give them the key to start organised singing. There was much more singing than usual in my block but mostly from screaming kids and isolated individuals (like me) . You literally only need about 20 people together in one block to make it work.

Brugge fans were quiet too and I was surprised that they didn't fill their allocation.

There are a lot of people on the last few pages in here who couldnt make the game yet are happy judging from their front room (I dont blame anyone not going midweek night games are shite) but thats always going to be part of the problem on champions league nights.

I'm in 314 right on the segregation Saturday was rocking up there, tonight was shite, the lads at the back still tried to get it going and the (few) regulars around us joined in but you're never going to get a raucous intimidating atmosphere when 75% of the people stood there are watching their first game through their phones.

Madrid or Bayern will take care of themselves, we'll be loud for 80% of the game and when we inevitably have a lull in the game the atmosphere will do the same and we'll have the exact same discussion on here saying its 'disappointing' we cant get up for a 'night like this'

I fullfil a lot of the criteria but haven’t got a York ticket stub.

Will attending the friendly in Caernavon as part of the Prince of Wales Investiture celebration do instead?

As you know I'm normally in 115 but had to do a little corporate junket in the Tunnel Club. There wasn't a lot of singing but the buzz coming from the South Stand and the East Stand corner was brilliant. Atmosphere was great don't know how the TV coverage didn't pick up on that.

I was there mate and there is no way you could describe that atmosphere as great!, it was dreadful.
