They piped it a few times that season, not just the Bolton game. Pearce was in charge and I wouldn't be surprised if he had some input to it. In fairness it may have seemed like a good idea at the time but in reality it was pretty stupid.
In terms of the atmosphere, Maine Road was a compact ground, and as such the atmosphere that could be generated was immense. The accoustics at CoMS because of the design will never be the same as that.
However.... I was lucky enough to be at the Rangers Vs Zenit Final and I kid you not the atmosphere was awesome, in fact unbelievable. Every single Rangers supporter were on their feet singing for the whole match. The Russians actually did their bit also but the Jocks were amazing. So to me it shows what can be done even in a stadium that is quite open like ours.
