Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I've always held this theory that 90% of City fans are the same age as me.

Watch those YouTube clips of pitch invasions and goal celebrations after televised goals:

Elland Road 78 (13-14 years old)
Maine Road v United 79 (14-15 years old)
Villa Park 81 (16-17 years old)
Vetch Field 84 (20 years old)
Charlton Promotion (early 20s)
5-1 v United (Morrissey in the North Stand mid 20s)
Blackburn Promotion (mid 30s)

Sadly I'm 62 in August and if my theory is anywhere near reality then Ewood Park 2000 will always be nothing but revisionist tearful nostalgia.

There is nothing behind us, because those fans have grown up with a different City and different expectations

Funnily enough we were discussing the 87-88 season today.

This was the only season, since I've been watching City, that we averaged less than 20,000, and yet I can remember around 12,000 travelling to Everton for the LC Quarter Final, and 3-4 other fixtures where we must have taken 7000+ (mostly in the competitions that have since been devalued)

We all dreamt of Wembley, but nobody ever complained about the cost as it was all so cheap.

How many home games that season?

31, and I'm still annoyed that I missed the 1-1 v Barnsley.
Must’ve taken a similar number to Huddersfield in the cup that season. Utter bedlam when Gidman scored the equaliser, I still maintain that’s the most mental celebration ever.

Such a memorable season that was - never to be forgotten away days at Blackpool, Bradford and Huddersfield

I was born in 1970 but I was at the "Battle of Elland Road" as a seven year old. The King's return was my second home game watching the first team. I had been watching the youth team and reserves for 18 months before then.

Being brought up in Stretford, it was never a chore sticking up four our team. Who'd have guessed 50 years ago that despite winning so many trophies in the last 15 years, fans would consider themselves Bigger Blues by posting pictures of empty seats at our home games for the rags' enjoyment.

Was shite in the away end today and to be honest didn't see many if any tourists at all, seemed mostly middle aged blues stood arms folded watching in silence.
I must confess to being one of those middle aged blokes
I joined in with a few songs about the current players but there's a reluctance to embrace anything new and it's been there all season

Today we had songs about Balotelli and Zabaleta and even the "Ederson and Ake......" seems outdated when we're hanging on at 2-1, especially when it doesn't include a single player who featured today.

Loads of singing on the concourse before the game and at half time but nothing during the game, really weird atmosphere. I went for a piss half way through the second half and I saw people leaving, fuckin strange day
Is our away support slowly getting like our home support?

Something is going wrong on the terraces.

We’re living off our recent success and the players that delivered that success. The current players, bar one of two exceptions, haven’t delivered anything so far, so there’s no need to chant their names.

It's always shit at spurs, nothing new here. Pretty much impossible to get chants spread around the whole end.
I’ve heard other clubs fans make. Right noise at spurs when they hve been beating Spurs.

TBF, it isn’t a ground where it’s easy to create a constant away support, a bit like Wolves, Arsenal, Liverpool, etc.
