I'm not saying it's 1894's job, however they've got a decent reach amongst the fanbase, as proven by how successful the protests were last year.
As an atmosphere group, they should be trying to help influence the atmosphere for the better by any means necessary, and this north stand is such a golden opportunity. Yes of course it's still possible to create a good atmosphere regardless, however it would definitely improve things for the better.
For what it's worth I respect the 1894 lot, and have personally donated to you on many occasions, however I firmly disagree with your stance on the North Stand.
It should certainly lead by SSL0 as it is supposed to be the official singing section. But don’t forget not all of SSL0 is 1894 and not all of 1894 are in SSL0.
I actually feel sorry for the 1894 lads because they try but they’re in a section that is supposed to be the official singing section, however, pre-kickoff when displays have been organised or even just the flags being waved, loads of people don’t even bother getting to their seats until after the game kicks off.
There are loads in there who leave early for half time, and loads who don’t come back for the second half for ages.
Where it used to be the best area of the ground for people staying until after the final whistle, it’s now an area where loads leave early before the end of the game just like everywhere else.
And, it’s a section where huge swathes of fans don’t sing!
When the players are doing their lap of appreciation after the game, they don’t spend any more time in front of the official singing section than any other blocks in the ground, because they don’t need to as it’s as empty as everywhere else.
It must be the only singing section in the world where all of that happens.
1894 can’t
make people sing and they can’t
make people get to their seats early, stay until half time, get back as half time kicks off and stay to the end. And it may be a bad look for them to moan about the fans around them like I’ve done here, so they probably stay away from calling the section out for being a shit singing section.
But every singing section in world football is the front man the rest of the ground joins in with. Singing sections should by default sing, instigate the atmosphere for the stadium (on the whole, other areas naturally contribute to things starting off) and be there for every minute of the game and take the applause from the team after the game as well as thanking the team in a two-way complimentary bond.
Fishermen don’t applaud the fish they catch for swimming. Similarly, we should never have to say ‘well done’ to our singing section for creating a good atmosphere, that should just be a given. But the players would if they knew that was the proper official singing section.
I’ve said on here before, but in the singing section at Old Trafford, people have warning notes on their seats if they’ve had their phone out or not sung in the previous game. If it persists their seat numbers are given to the club and they are asked to relocate out of the singing section. I’m not saying we should do that, but that’s the level of demand at some clubs.
^all another reason to get out of there and get over to the expanded NSL1 for me.
