Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

It's a real shame what European Nights at the Etihad have become.

Didn't recognise a single person around me today, and felt like a bit of a stranger. I don't blame anyone for not bothering with these nights, and I don't blame the tourists for filling up a ground that would've been empty otherwise, but it just leads to shite like tonight.

There will come a day when the club really regrets how disenfranchised they've let their core supporters become, I think it's closer than they might like to think.
Impossible to compete with the drum and the coordinated idiots who are on some sort of Irish dancing mission do they even see any of the game
So first step is to ban the drum

Alot of our fans have got lazy, won so much and feel they don't have to try unless it's United, Liverpool amd I don't go CL but yes there had been some great atmospheres for odd game, difference between home and away Is so different, away from home domestically is amazing day out and majority up for a sing song, club needs to work with us, United atmosphere isn't great but club are working with fans to try to change it.

I agree.

City fans have never really taken to the CL bar the season we won it.

Up to that point, and to now, it was clear what the club wanted to do, and that was to sell tickets to anyone and any fan who wanted to watch a CL match at the Etihad. That included letting anyone buy a citizens card for the Real Madrid game. That and Madrid fans all over the Etihad was the final nail in the CL coffin for many City fans.
Cannot wait until Galatasaray turn up in the last game of this format

Never mind 8,000 extra. It would be great to have 8,000 fans who get behind the team. Credit to 1894 but they are flogging a dead horse.
I’m not sure any group could improve CL nights. The regulars need to be there and for whatever reason too many have decided the CL isn’t worth it.

The club have got ticket pricing wrong (especially last year which is one of the two reasons why I dropped the scheme) and have forced regulars out which is now spreading to PL games. And I can afford it, I just choose not to pay those prices for whatever experience it will be.

Letting drums and megaphones in is ridiculous. It just adds to the opinion that CL is shite for most.

I don’t think it’s impossible. Going back a few years now, but that Hamburg game - you could barely hear there fans.

It depends on different factors - pricing, and how big the game is being two main reasons

The club did ban Ultra drums from the Etihad. They seem to have relaxed that rule for visiting German (Ultra) fans in the CL.

Just like the English have their way of supporting, so do the Europeans. European fans are brought up from an early age to join in with the Ultras. Eventually many become Ultras or go in the Ultra ends. It is no different to how we made our way from the Kippax front wall to the back of the Kippax singing section.

The Europeans probably think our support is strange as we don't support City throughout the game, and only sing sporadically throughout the game.

If some of you told an Ultra our way of supporting the team is right, and their way of supporting the team is wrong, they would laugh at you.

Once you stop or reduce the amount of games you attend, its very hard to get back into it.
Only been to one game this season away at Brighton. That was a nightmare getting away from the ground.
To be honest I dont see myself going again.
But that's be honest football has changed, its more sterile, people like us who just buy a ticket and have a pint in the Townley or Mary D's arent wanted. We dont spend in the club shop.

All pl games have shit atmosphere and if you chat with their match going fans they all say the same as us.

The clubs, the pl, var, half n half, tourist are all killing of the atmosphere we all want.

Agree that it was poor last night. A couple of us constantly tried to get it going from the back of 115, helped by a few younger fans in front of us, with only limited success. As others have said, the lack of regulars at these games doesn’t help. There aren’t many positives to draw from that atmosphere but if I could pick one, it was good to hear a few chants being started further along the South Stand in 116/117 which carried over to our section. Also noticed some in 110/111 corner doing their best to get it going too. And a couple of chants cascading down from SS3.

Feels like every year there are less and less regulars doing CL group games though. If we get to the quarters or semis and get drawn against one of the big guns or a domestic rival, plenty of those group stage stay aways will be there and it’ll be different.

They have a drum at Bridge Celtic Fukin so annoying I’ve complained many times as have most of my neighbours especially mid week games when I’m sat at home with Sky or TNT on Mute trying to watch us on TV

Sadly mate I don’t think they will ever regret it. They are completely entrenched in the view that us ‘legacy fans’ are at the very bottom of the food chain.

If anything those of us who haven’t sacked it off yet are an inconvenience because Soriano and his mates would much prefer our seats be occupied by a tourist who spends £250 in the club shop, films the entire match on their iPad, and doesn’t even care who wins.

It’s dead now. And it’s spreading to the PL games. The club have never understood the fans’ relationship with UEFA and their shite competitions and thought they could replace the regulars with new fans, but the atmosphere is all wrong, it’s manufactured. Light shows, drums etc. all go under the column “Entertainment”. And let’s not forget those regulars now gone were the ones who created the atmospheres under Mancini and the run to Istanbul.

But hey, we’re top of the Deloitte’s league so … !

I have no idea how we get back to where we were now. Even at the start of the second half there were large blocks of empty seats behind Trafford’s net. That’s our vocal end isn’t it?

Think its also easier for us FOC to stop. We have seen us in div 3 and have lived the dream. The records City have broken, the manor in which City have won the league, Aguero and Gundo, the emotions we used in those games lol.

The majority of our old school fans don't give a shit about the champions league. We were out if it for so many years, over forty i believe, we just had zero connection to it. When we did actually qualify, any initial newly generated interest and enthusiasm was quickly dispelled by some horrific refereeing decisions that went against us and the disgusting way UEFA contrived to stitch us up and get us booted out of the competition. Was i pleased we won it? Of course, just to shut the pundits and moronic fans of other clubs up for five minutes. Obviously i was pleased for Pep and the players as it meant so much to them. Also I want us to win every competition we enter.
Many more shitshows like last night and even the tourists will fuck it off.
VAR vs spurs did it for me in the CL. I saw the writing on the wall after that game. That killed the excitement of the competition for me and it's never come back.

I've been out of the chumps league scheme 2 years now, I don't miss it one jot, and my next step is down to a flexi ticket I think, the way the average fan is now treated by the club is to me a disgrace, after 43 years I think the time is fast approaching where it's either the pub or TV,,, I'm just getting as though I really cba with it anymore,, sad but true

Very difficult to compete with 3,500 opposition fans all in the same section As far as I remember drums haven't been allowed in before the Dortmund game The Germans and some East European fans are so coordinated, clearly they are rehearsed, that most clubs' fans would struggle
Agree 100% about pricing etc and City fans do get up for the big games

Have to say our team did their very best last night to bring back the unique City Identity . We had an outbreak of gallows humour in my section of SS3 . The sort we used to enjoy week after week on the Kippax and on the road . That last break when Sav fell over his own feet was as good as any Laurel and Hardy . Pure comedy gold . Luckily for me most of the regulars were there last night and we had no choice but to laugh . On a serious note it's that shared suffering that makes it worth going to matches as much as shared joy . That's what builds real atmosphere, not this drum banging fitness class the away fans bring .

What was doubly annoying last night with the drum was that for most of the match it wasn't even the whole of their bottom tier joining in. It wasn't till it was obvious we were going to continue stinking the place out and they were likely to get a win that those rows further back joined in. So we had to put up with that so a few hundred could enjoy their formation dancing club. Deffo need banning.

That said, there weren't that many camera totting tourists or half and halfers near us but it was still dead as a dodo apart from the odd bit of laughter. On the way out a fella was trying to pick a fight with any half and halfers he could find but I did think it's hardly their fault we were bobbins.
