Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

Thank fuck Bluemoon is in no way representative of our fanbase.
I booze in Fallowfield before and after the match. We have a minibus of young old blokes lads girls mums who go to every game. Some fuck off to the Corner Shop boozer early doors, some stay and clap the team off. But we all absolutely fucking love the whole thing - meeting in the boozer before the game, watching the lads at the game, boozing after the game. 90% of them don’t ever read Bluemoon.
Happy to follow the boys and nit wallow in the self-flagellation and woe-is-me bollocks that gets posted on here.
You mean the 5 game season card isn’t the norm??

Don’t necessarily agree with the last part mate, but are you honestly saying the emotion for the Wigan game, when we hadn’t even secured promotion, was greater than in 2012 or 2022?
Wasn't on in 2012 or 2022 can only go off TV but the Wigan game was something else. It was just before the rags champions league final at the end of their treble winning season. But in town that night it was as if they never existed the feeling on the streets and in the pubs was electric. Claremont Rd was blocked on that spring evening as the crowd drinking at the Bee Hive merged with the mob drinking at the offy opposite and the dibble had a hard job getting a Wigan coach through. The game far from a classic we spurned several chances and Wigan hit the bar late on. The Goats dodgy goal proved the difference and the outpouring of emotion at the final whistle was unbelievable. We were at Wembley(a shitty place in London that we're never going to see) and we had realised the long nightmare was over we were finally looking up, you had to be there. I was at Wembley in 70 and 76 but for raw emotion nothing topped that night. Not saying 2012 wasn't better I had a panic attack on 93 20 at my mates but to have beaten 99 it would have to have been very special.

£21.50 for a 5 year old against West ham on historically the worst Saturday for attendance of the season .
Anyone want to guess what the north stand might look like ?
It's almost like City think the 5 year old is coming on their own FFS , Clueless
That’s not much more than a packet of cigarettes or 3 pints……

I was in royals that night (70s night) the place was bouncing, city flags and city songs mixed in with 70s disco.
They don't make club nights like that anymore.

Like you say, it’s generally the big games, in which we do well, where the atmosphere is best and there’s been far, far more of them in the 22 years at the Etihad than in the 22 years that preceded them at Maine Road.

In those 22 years at Maine Road there were two FA Cup Quarter Finals (1981 and 1988) one League Cup semi final (1981) three Derby wins (1981, 1989 and 2002) about four end of season promotion ‘deciders’ (1985, 1989, 1999 and 2000) assuming the Bournemouth, Wigan and Birmingham games count as such (and one of those ended in disappointment).

No European games at Maine Road in that period.

During that period we beat Liverpool and Arsenal three times each at Maine Road.

Overall that’s easily less than a game a season.

Of course there were other games where for various reasons the atmosphere was great: Villa in 1986, Palace in 1987, Leeds in 1992 (twice), Villa in 1995, Norwich in 2002 and our last game at Maine Road immediately spring to mind - but big games where we won, which made for an incredible atmosphere, given the timescale involved, were not actually that frequent.

Compare that to the big games we’ve won at the Etihad, where the atmosphere has couldn’t be anything less than incredible, then it’s simply no contest. If I was going to guess, it’s at least three a season in average. Even before the takeover we had as many Derby wins in five years at COMS as we did in the previous 22 at Maine Road. Since we’ve moved to our current home we’ve beaten United 11 times there!

People, understandably, sometimes look at the past through very rose tinted spectacles, because it represents their youth and a time when they had less troubles and responsibility, but the reality is that there have been far more amazing atmospheres at our current home than our previous one, as much as Maine Road was the main reason I fell in love with City (alongside Dennis Tueart!).
With you there, Dennis was awesome worth the attendance money just to see him.
Read a previous post who mentioned that at corners at Maine Road the crowd would sing a long City which I was thinking about recently also an air horn would go off like dddddddddCITY and of course Helen Helen ring your help and she would duly oblige. At Eastlands there is no real response on corners, shame.

There were 2 Japanese Blues in front of me in East Stand middle tier and they loved the game. They were joining in with the chants in the second half.

It's a shame that some of the people who have been going for donkeys cam't raise their voices. Each to their own.
I get what you’re saying. You’re trying to say long standing fans don’t make noise as well, which I agree with.

However I’d say in terms of tourists, near where I sit, I’ve found a large number of them aren’t city fans. I’ve asked different people a few times and most of the time they support someone else and the odd time they celebrate away goals - Liverpool being the worst example.

If the ‘tourists’ actually support city I don’t really have an issue with it. Also, if it’s not at the expense of long standing city fans - ie they’re the only ones who can afford the ticket or have a chance to get one.

I've said this for a while.

Anfield gets loads of tourists too, but the one difference I always notice over there is that the tourists seem to genuinely be Liverpool fans, whereas ours seem to be general "football tourists"

Football tourists, coming to just take in a game of PL football because they happen to be visiting Manchester for the week. No interest in City scoring a goal or winning the game, just want to go back home and say they’d been to a PL game.

Tourists who are away fans, come to the Etihad to watch the team City are playing, half’n’half scarf on and the half with the away team colours/name on show, filming the away end whenever they sing, filming the opposition team’s players, anything between constantly leaning forward when their team attacks to jumping up celebrating when they score.

Only sometimes are these tourists there for City. I don’t mind these too much. I’d still rather we weren’t a tourists league full stop and that ticket prices were cheaper with huge driving initiatives in place for local fans… but at least these sad bastards who’ve latched onto us now we’re good do actually want City to win are there for City, even if it is only to get some reflected glory.

I’ve had all of these sort of visitors sat next to me and in the area around me for a number of years now. I’ve got into arguments, and I’ve seen loads of mither with either arguments or fist fights ensuing after one of the cunts jumps up when their team have scored against us.

This is one reason why a fair few people have dropped away from our matchgoing support. They’re sick of this sort of thing… or they’ve been banned for being one of the ones fighting with the cheeky cunts celebrating their team’s goal.

Sounds like you had a great night pal! :-)

Definitely. I think that’s why so many city fans have given up the champions league. Going to what’s meant to be some of the biggest games in history, to then be surrounded by people openly supporting the away side.

It’s a joke when city fans don’t have a chance of getting those same tickets as well

Had a good chat with a proper loyal blue this morning. Started off with Savinio and how shocking he is at the moment then he told me that he's had a season ticket for 37 years and that his son now wanted to go to games with him. The seat next to him is on general sale and it's a different person at every game, including tourist, tick tock etc etc. He made an enquiry to the club regarding the possibility of purchasing a season ticket for that seat so that they could go together. The club said sorry no can do as we're not issuing season tickets and made some lame excuse, the outcome being the lad not going to the games and a really pissed very loyal fan who said he has never felt more disconnected from the club. This can't continue can it? Read the comments on the Sunderland link and they see what we see, there's gonna have to be a protest or boycott otherwise we are fucked.

I’ve had a seat to my left have a different tourist for every game (or it’s gone empty) since the lad who used to sit next to me was priced out a few years ago. I’d say only half the time it’s someone who wants City to win.

I’ve tried to get the seat for a mate for one-off games and it’s never available on the official City ticket website. Even though nobody has sat there for the game sometimes.

There should be more seats available to proper Blues on the official City ticket website and fewer of these ticket tout ones.

We tend to get more City supporting visitors / tourists near us for Prem games and more neutrals or away fans for CL games. Some of the visitors will love City and spend a fortune to get here.

Yes tickets should be easier to buy for more local fans. That’s partly why I have always stuck up for Daz Clark’s FB page on here, when posters were queuing up to cry about some Aways tickets being sold on there, yonks ago

The club wouldn’t eat my boys review their season tickets even though they have thousands of loyalty points and have been regulars for 10 years. The reason? My dad broke his hip at the beginning of last season so he and his mate missed about 12 games, and transferred their tickets to my boys. This meant that they only bought 9 tickets on their flexi gold tickets. The club have lost them now.

In the last 3 games: we have met

A mum and teenage boy from New York, full Donnaruma. He was as excited as any Manc. 2 day visit must have cost a fortune.
A young lad and Dad from Hampshire again first match, and had missed playing for his School to travel uo for the day
Last week A lad, and Dad from Dublin, Flown in Sat morning, museum, match, and a night in Manc. He was also very excited when we scored.
To most tourists, to me blues of the future.

I see it like you mate. I used the term tourist as it was the subject of the conversation but these fans have as much right as us to be there.

Tourists are people not supporting City in my book and neutrals are people we just try to convince to become Blues.
