Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I mean something similar to below , but an Oasis track, before the whistle as the players get ready for kick off or after the final whistle, whilst the players are celebrating after a win.

What we’ve got is a farty version of Blue Moon that lasts a minute or so.

We need a proper anthem.

Always thought The Hollies ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’ should be the track for us. One of the great Manchester songs.

I agree.

I know it’s a cliche, City and Oasis, but Oasis have numerous songs we could use as an anthem, like we have done after beating United at full-time. I appreciate Blue Moon is now a tradition at City, but it really is a poor anthem, especially the version that is used by the club.

Villa used to sing ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’. I don’t know if they sing it anymore.
Nah I get what you mean. I don’t understand the clubs rationale with playing that version of Blue Moon instead of the original.

I’ve always like the idea of The Killing Moon for a City song, even if it was about a player.

For Oasis though, Half the World Away would work.

The issue is that we have a bunch of fans who don’t keep in time properly, it’s noticeable in the stadium and also on the telly. Reckon they’d struggle like fuck to do something like Hibs do. Ironic given the amount of musicians we have in our support!

We were discussing this pre match at Newcastle when the young lad was playing Local Hero on his guitar
Most teams seem to be going down the Anthem route, and whilst some are far better and more identifiable than others, (Marching on Together, Greasy Chip Butty) ours just sounds shite and doesn't inspire

There were better Beatles songs than Hey Jude but I hear that regularly at 3-4 stadiums

Similarly there were better Oasis songs than DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER but it ticks all the boxes, as it's loud and symbolises Manchester defiance, and most important of all, everyone knows the words.
That should be belted out when the teams are on the pitch

Carabao Cup effect I reckon. Most oldies have a fond affection to it due to it being our last trophy winning memory for such a long time until 2011. Plus all the games are night matches which are easier for FOCs to attend.

Therefore more FOCs in the CC cup scheme by my reasoning.

But 24k points should be enough for the derby, I agree. That’s about 20 years worth of season tickets and cup schemes, without doing the maths.

Get a decent chant and a half decent drummer and problems with the atmosphere could be sorted.

Drums are like marmite with City fans Tim! I'm not in favour of them but we have trialled them in the past because sometimes you have to be open to ideas regardless of how controversial they are. We originally did it for Gladbach at home in 2016 - the rearranged game after the thunderstorm the night before - and the guy we had on the drum did a decent job. Trouble is, at half-time on the concourse he copped for shit loads of abuse with some fans calling him a nonce, etc, so he sacked it off second half - after coming close to battering the clown who called him a nonce ;) The fan who had a go at it in the second half is a top lad but drumming clearly wasn't his forte and he just ended up smashing the shit out of it!

We play this song at most games Wonderwall it has a catchy chorus.

Look over the pond a MLS team calls their mini yellow wall "Wonderwall" and plays the song to tie, as a club, we're not missing a trick here?

Even the players bought into

Some of the best chants like the one I cut and pasted couid work equally well with fans clapping along.

My view is that we would be better off with a Capo and a drummer. Anyone abusing somebody for trying to improve the atmosphere is misguided at best IMHO.

I used to go over to see Atalanta once a season before they were successful and the ultras at the front would point out anyone slacking on the chanting. Anybody pointed out had to up their game.

We’ve gone far too easy on the people who stand about contributing fook all in the designated singing sections

Here lies the problem: we need a stand full of like-minded people who want to create an atmosphere. It's been proven by many away teams that come to the stadium and create an atmosphere.

The EPL be the most competitive league in the world, but it needs to go a long way to compete with our European neighbours, which includes our neighbours in Scotland

Always thought this would be a great anthem. A great chorous that actually suits us….
‘We’re no strangers to this place, where real life and dreams collide,
And even if we fall from Grace, we will keep the dream alive’

You are spot on @Tim of the Oak

It's not Ultra's, as the PC brigade in this country would freak out.

Absolutely, Wonderwall a Manchester song would be perfect.

It might have been old school with lots of FOCs (like me) but we were bloody noisy.
There were lots of FOCs (us 2 included) but most of the songs originated from the younger supporters.

Lots of noise but still too many songs about Zabaleta, Kolo, Balotelli, and even Amorim at one point

My New Year's Resolution was to only join-in with the songs about the current players, but I seriously don't remember that happening until Semenyo scored

I was also disappointed that we'd reverted to the "Rayan Cherki".(Kolo/Yaya tune) and seemingly dropped the Bowie/Starman tune that was booming across the Stadium of Light

At least that was original and a bit different

Rayan Cherki/Starman song was loud after the Madrid match
