Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

You can see the difference in the type of people at the this game. Loads of young lads, which helps the atmosphere.

Would be intrigued to know if there as a change in policy for tickets for this. I know lads that got tickets that normally struggle. Did more go to actual blues instead of the usual viagogo and corporate shite?

QPR away 1996?
I don’t remember it at that game to be honest but it was around about that time. My first sort of vivid memory of it was away at Bradford when I think we’d won for the first time in ages, maybe Frank Clark era. Within a year or two we’d speeded it up and started clapping to it and kind of ruined it.

I first heard it at QPR 96 , We drew 2 2

Great to see but all too often the concourse singing doesn't transfer into the stands where it's really needed. Spurs last week was a case in point, but from what many have said about Sunday thankfully it did this time

Yep, that's when it was first sung - Coppell's first game in charge. I wasn't at the game but I was at Reading a few nights later for a miserable 2-0 defeat (or was it 3-0?). In the off license straight after the match, some lads came in singing it and that's when I first heard it.

It was John "Lecky" Letchford who was the originator of the chant. He was a member of the Levenshulme Blues who I started travelling with later on that season. It's mad that an original chant started by a City fan and is so widely sung by other fanbases isn't sung by City fans anymore. I even heard Feyenoord fans singing "Feyenoord 'til I die" on the tram when we played them away in the Champions League back in 2017!

I get what he’s saying and I agree, we as fans need to step up behind the team.

However I do think there’s a lack of understanding of our fanbase and some of the reasons why for example we aren’t selling out.

I sit in the Colin bell stand now, and pep will turn to the tunnel club from time to time and demand more noise. Maybe he does, but I get the impression he doesn’t really undertsandwho’s in those seats

Nonetheless the fans that are going need to get behind the team from the whistle.

He can hardly run over the the south stand and do it , he's purely doing it because its right behind him however its a gesture to all fans not just those sat near him

Exactly. It’s the noise he interested in, not the attendance. When the crowd lift the players it’s the roar that comes from the whole stadium that does it. He’s gesticulating to the whole crowd, not the tunnel club.

Maybe after the Gala game the club just didn't want to take a risk - hopefully a practice to continue with

I get that. It just makes me laugh, when I see all the tunnel club people not knowing what to do
