Attacks in Paris

For the moment, here in France we have only a tragedy on our hands. I live over 350 miles from Paris, so obviously I’m not in a position to comment on the mood there. I have spoken to Parisian friends, and while they have been stunned by the action, I would say that categorically that they do not share the sense of horrified shock being played out by the media here, in the UK, or the US. None of them seemed surprised.

That is unquestionably true of the French in my corner of the world, where the reaction has been a quiet combination of the gallic shrug, ...

Your first sentence is the problem as I see it, everything is about economics but it shouldn't be, nearly every policy is driven by it, it hasn't done us any favours

I'm sorry, but that is a nonsensical argument, and one that smacks of craven appeasement.
The vast majority of people born and raised in the west, have this contempt for what they see as a backward, misogynistic, homophobic
cult that fails to project it's more sane precepts to any significant degree. All of us live and work amongst muslims, we have friends and acquaintances
that are regular features of our lives, but, as these atrocities are not of their doing, we do not go out and murder them in reprisal.
What we do is censure and ridicule; moderate muslims except this, radical fruitcakes do not, but contempt for their religion is sacrosanct in my book,
and suggesting that we should moderate our true inner feelings to assuage the sensibilities of would be murderers is very dangerous indeed.

You are thinking of economics too narrowly, economics is about resources the basis of everything, be that human resources, raw materials or whatever it may be . Reality is that economics is all that matters as it is what feeds people and keeps them warm and healthy

I was talking about economics in terms of immigration, the fight for growth and jobs isn't everything, as I said in my first post the debate cannot be discussed due to the ingrained views of the liberals and the far right

PB then kind of made my point for me my charging in and calling me a racist even though I actually mentioned racist nutters in one of my posts and I never even said what my opinion on the matter was, the inability for rational debate is always a big stumbling block on here
