Chatting to a few fellow Blues earlier in the wake of a glorious Barcelona victory last night, and the majority seem to think that with next season preceeding a World Cup, first team football will be a prority for most players who aren't dead certs to start for their national teams.

Anyone else agree?

wait and see I guess.... I'm not sure about the world-cup year being a big factor... you could argue that playing 50 games a isnt ideal preparation, and nobody with half a brain would sign for a club that they might not be happy at in two or three years.

if we get one big player then it may have something of a domino effect... but i have to say i dont share the high expectations of some people on this board, purely on the basis of how many people turned us down in january.

Not bothered, I think if Hughes doesn't have any more big boys disrupting the balance we could do well. That said the perfect big boy could be absolutely brilliant.

I certainly agree with the domino effect, and also I think January is a notoriously difficult time to sign any players, let alone big names.

I was just thinking about Tevez and the incentives of choosing between us and the dippers. If he went there he would have to be content with a place on the bench for a significant number of games. Arentina often employ a system with 1 up top and Messi just behind. Tevez already has to compete with the likes of D.Milito, Aguero and Higuaín for that striker spot, and it certainly isnt any easier if he's not playing. Incidentally, the same situation applies to Higuaín at Real Madrid and perhaps even Anelka at Chelsea.

i honestly think we will attract at least one MASSIVE player in the summer

But the MASSIVE one as you put it will start the domino effect

get one of the really big names like kaka etc then that will open so many doors to better players than we'd otherwise get

and back to the original question the type of player that will be looking to play first team football as it a world cup year are going to be the player that have the potential or are starting to drift for the limelight. So that the young or the older ones . Goofy falls in the the older bracket ... He'll either move from Ac or they'll sell kaka and he get into the starting 11 more often.

Tevez may be the the exception to the rule as there not many club that have 4 established top class players for 3 positions
