August done: Early season thoughts

Shouldn't even be playing until the end of August and these international breaks get right on my tits. Hopefully we won't lose any momentum, and a good start to the cl would be nice. It's good that yaya won't have internationals on his plate and it would be good if kun actually had some competition rather than just cover. I reserve the right to be miserable until about bonfire night and if we are still to of the table by a few points then I might even admit I'm happy with our start.

Good start. 2 points better than my best expectations. Lets keep it up though blues. We were a bit lazy yesterday - we relied too much on possession and let the "win the ball back quickly press" from the previous games drift a bit. The next game will be very difficult so we will have to be back to our best to win that.

My thoughts are the same as I said on here pre-season.

If we want it there's no team in this country who will get close to us.

Looks very much like we want it so far.

Fantastic start to the season, let's just take one game at a time, champions league kicks in soon as well let's just hope no players come back injured from international duty and start September just like we have August....

I think it's fair to say that our perfect start has surpassed expectations. The highlight has to Sterling's impact. The defending is what has surprised me most and a very nice surprise it is too. Vinny back to his best and Mangala looking comfortable and composed beside him. I seem to remember a lot of people(including me) saying that they just didn't work together.
The transfer window has been frustrating to say the least, but when it closes it could prove to be our best window in a long time.
Mourinho's meltdown and Chelsea's form have been the icing on the cake. If the rags lose today I don't think August could have gone any better.

Like the look of this side. It's only going to get better. Seriously cannot seeing us slip, like start of this year.
As i've said on another thread, think this season is going to be stupendous.

And have we even got out of third gear yet? Perhaps in that first half against Chelsea, not in the rest of the games. As you said, the desire seems to be back. That's what was missing last season. Chelsea's squad was no better than ours, their will to win was.

Agree with that. We look well ahead of our 'peers' and have not yet had a full squad upon which to call.

The only decent team we've played are Stuttgart, so we'll probably have to wait until the CL before deciding how far we have improved.

Honestly, after 'scraping' the other 2 league wins, I feel this time we could win it by a decent points margin. Unfortunately the hacks will probably put this down to Mourinho losing it, LVG never having it and Wenger never spending it.

What surprises me is how solid we look even though we have two wide men in the team.
The reason we are so solid is because we have two wide men in the team. Unlike when Silva and Nasri play wide, they're rarely out of position when we lose the ball and have greater pace and stamina so are much more able to help their fullback.

the teams we have played have been cautious, imo, if some club tries a high pressing strategy and we handle it comfortably it would be a good pointer to our ECL prospects. Apart from that, the attitude and performances compared to last season is a real puzzle, we've gone from being a bit " brittle" to looking like a machine, confident powerful and likely to score from anywhere at any time, with basically the same players.

Ive been waiting for a few years to see us absolutely dominate a season and to me this is the best opportunity we have ever had to really show the world what we are capable of. Feels like KDB is the last piece of an attacking puzzle that could unlock any defence in Europe. Any.

Most of the credit for the start has to go to Manuel Pellegrini, I am honest enough to admit that I was ready to see him move on at the end of last season, but to reinvigorate the squad and get them hungry the way he has, he is showing all us doubters exactly why the club were right to keep him on. Hopefully the good start continues and after this season he really gives the powers that be a headache about what they do next.

Loving it.

I pretty much never want to suggest it, but this team, especially Kompany, Silva, Toure and Aguero, deserve a large outright league victory. They should be going down as some of the best players the league has ever seen, and to do that I think they'll need a really uncompromising win. We've had the best squad for the last 4 seasons and won it twice - We've got the best squad again, but we shouldn't just be aiming to win this season, it should be a target to win with games to spare.

Football squads have complicated dynamics, mate.
