Automatics

Would agree that manuals are of course more fun with using the gears, but the practicality of automatics makes them so much better. I get stuck in traffic everyday with driving to work, just got an automatic and enjoying the commute so much more. The BMW 320d automatic is a fantastic engine.
 
I drive a Toyota Prius which is an automatic hybrid. Brilliant on juice and I don't mind the fact that it's automatic in urban areas but no fun on the motorway.

Me too brother. The thing is, most of my mileage is motorway. I mean, for the last 2 years there was fucking 20 miles of roadworks on the m62, the m60 is always a pain in the arse after 7 am, m6 feck knows which way it's going to go (especially around sandbach), m1 is a gamble and so on. I quite like being a lazy bastard and just using the accelerator.

I forgot to add dangerous as well.

I like the idea of a good auto but the polo1.4 just doesn't have the engine for the job. Been thinking about getting it chipped for extra torque or whatever it's called.
I drove an auto ford president in the U.S. and that was shit too but it had a massive engine.

Next motor will be paddle shift and i've got me eye on one. Ex company car bought by the employee, low miles, fsh and mint condition. Just waiting for the current owner to be too old or pop his clogs.<br /><br />-- Thu Oct 03, 2013 6:39 pm --<br /><br />

Just sold a Mercedes C220 auto, paddle shift... To be fair I loved it and am now looking at swapping our Hyundai ix35 for a Mercedes ML auto as we tow a caravan...

I loved the Automatic ( my first )

I always used to drive manual until i tried an auto.

Will always go automatic from now on.

Misses was sceptical "why do weneed an automatic".... then she tried it and see why now so much easier and less stress in traffic.
 
Automatic all the way. I used to drive manual cars and motorbikes when I enjoyed driving. Now that I realise it's just an extremely expensive necessity I like to do it as easily and as comfortably as I can. I just bought a new truck yesterday. 2013 Ford F150 supercrew 4x4 with a 5.0L V8 and a six speed transmission. The last one was 4.6L with a four speed tranny. Hopefully this one will be a little better on fuel. Looks like this except mines grey.

I doubt anyone struggles with gears in traffic mate. More so that they can't be arsed. It's like saying, "I struggled to turn on the scum match yeterday".

No, there just better to drive, if you've a tip tronic box you can change gear faster than you can in a manual.

Had an Audi q3 8 speed thing on hire the other day. Had the sports option, paddle gears if you wanted it that way and the up/down option on the gear stick. Just missed shifting the gearstick about. Dangerous thing. Was doing 100mph on the motorway but it felt like 40. In traffic it occasionally stuttered when it couldn't decide whether 1st or 2nd was the right gear.

Don't get me started on the handbrake.

Why muck about with sloppy gearchanges when the autobox and it's wonderful electronics (in the modern car) can do all the work for you?

We no longer have manual chokes, crank handles, manual window winders, guess which outmoded item is going that way too :)
