Away fans / tourists in home sections

I think you very much want to push the narrative that it's City fans touting and selling on.

Wasn't it you that pushed the removal of loyalty points for away games due to the mythical problem of "points whoring"??

Re-reading some of the old CM threads and the FG one currently open, it appears you also had a hand in that creation too.

I hope you can see on reflection the problem you were trying to fix for the club (SC holders picking and choosing and leaving empty seats, empithad jibes etc.) was probably a better situation than what we have now.

The 14 game policy, another trojan horse for removing SCs. I can't find anything on here where you've taken credit for that one to be fair but you seem quite proud of the other two

I appreciate it's been bastardised and I've no doubt you thought it was a good idea but I hope you now see that the ticketing sub committee or whatever you called yourselves have played right into their hands.

Just back to the point on rows of seats, blocks etc. It's 100% the club, not blind faith, facts

I listed my ticket for Sunday, it was "sold" within 2 minutes (email confirming it was listed 00:56am, email it was sold at 00:58am) of being put up, and the person in my seat bought it from a ticket site. Is that what the exchange was for?? I think the club has a system that siphons them off to these agencies, no other explanation for it going that quickly at that time of night

If it were city fans just getting rid of their tickets there wouldn't be whole blocks of tickets available, anyone who attended the Liverpool game could see it all laid bare in plain sight.

7 years ago…. Nothing new. If you’re an away fan sat in a home end, even the family stand, keep your mouth shut.

It’s anything but the family stand these days, I understand the club had to do something with the non attending STH/empty seats, especially in there. But they’ve created an absolute abomination, I’ve read suggestions we should consider a neutral/tourist section, we already have one! Every significant game it’s littered with away fans, fans of other clubs, schools & sports clubs from all over the uk, social media numpties, competition winners, and now that’s spreading around the ground, I can only see an
extension of this model when the NS is completed

From what i have read & heard, the ticket websites return what they havent sold (trying to get £400+) and City blag everyone by saying these are the 2nd batch of tickets that are being released or exchange tickets - usually adding them to the seat planner about 48hrs before the game!

Correct, the second batch is the scraps that are left

Dead right younger lads can't even catch up by attending unpopular away games now, they'll have to await us shuffling off the mortal coil. If you're at the top that's where you'll stay.
Only if u buy platinum and join all cup schemes! However, season on season, high pointers (those above 25k for instance) are dropping down the pecking order when away criteria announced. Why? Because more away tiks for bigger games are being offered to 'tourists' .

We'll be the first club to trial a mixed ground soon where away fans are allocated tickets in home stands. Nothing would surprise me any more

Isn't it Fulham that have a dedicated section for tourists?

I'm not against that sort of idea if it means keeping fans together.

At the Madrid semi last season when they scored two blokes taking pictures and smiling etc while everyone else was fuming/nervous etc. Got told to put his phone away etc but couldn't speak English.

If it has to be done, keep them away from the normal fan....

Should be easy to do especially when the stand is done.

There are more than enough City fans that want to attend games that have either been priced out or unable to get tickets for all the games they want to attend when tickets become a firesale.

I think it's worth remembering City operate an "all games on sale" approach at the start of the season. Matchday members have to purchase their tickets for the season in one mad rush. This obviously artificially creates demand for the club as City fans rush to buy as they can either get, or more likely afford, against non-City fans who will be looking to pick up one ticket for one of the "more attractive" games.

For example City fan A wants to watch as many games as possible with their child. They know Liverpool at home is going to be more expensive and almost definitely on the TV.

They're competing with a Non-City fan B who just wants to attend one "glamour" game. By the time Fan A has bought tickets to the Derby, the games closest to the kids birthdays, the last games of the season etc. Non-City fan B have got their Liverpool ticket, Non-City fan C have got their Chelsea ticket etc and City fan A is left with Brentford at home on a Wednesday in December.

It's a really unfair practice not to mention asking fans to pay several hundred pounds month's in advance for games that are likely to be moved for TV.

Bollocks!! jrb mentioned cup schemes so he's obviously an ST holder. I'm more concerned about fans who can't afford PL and CL games but are unwilling to go to a cup game with lower price (but not cheap) tickets.

If you have only got 19 pound, it doesn’t matter if the ticket is 20 quid or 250, mate.

The only way a tourist area would work is if the tourist bought tickets there !
It won't stop home tickets getting into the wrong hands. Will away fans buy tourist tickets ?

Also by tightening up on tickets , more points, attend so many games per season etc. We still run the risk of new fans who don't qualify or fans that travel far don't qualify.
More worrying would be no new young blood coming through, we need the younger supporters.
Personally at the moment my lad (27) me (64) can't get tickets let alone sat together.
I can see my lad knocking it on the head completely ending 4th generation of match going family.

I don't know the answer, we might have to get tickets in the tourist area ;)

They used to have one not sure if still exists. Was usually more away fans than anything else. I watched city from it loads of times. It was part of the stand behind goals next to away fans

The abolition of points for away games benefitted the highest points holders the most. I’m just stating the fact.
I was speaking to one of the highest (probably in the top 10) points holders in Faro, the night after the defeat in Lisbon, and that was his exact point

This was somebody who'd travelled to Enschede and Liege in 1978, but now he can miss the vast majority of away games and still qualify for Anfield and Old Trafford

It would work if it was marketed as that so the tourists knew where to go and the whole area - say 2 blocks - could be handed over to the ticket agencies as their allocation.

Glad that after I mentioned a neutral area a few weeks back some more seem to be getting on board with it solving a lot of our problems.

The North Tourist stand.

It also creates empty seats and tourist seats.

City fans who originally bought tickets at the start of the season for specific matches may not be able to attend the rearranged matches because of TV rescheduling.

The tickets then get put on the ticket exchange. The club either sells the tickets at a much higher price, or it makes the tickets part of hospitality packages.

Another reason why the club want as much ticket money upfront is the interest it makes from the bank/s.

It's a win, win for the club no matter how you look at it

If all tickets were sold closer to the games after a TV reschedule, then more City fans would attend the games.

Not for me and would probably see me bin off the games. As mentioned Fulham had one and got rid because it was just an unofficial away end.

Corporate is already this so they can pay for hospitality in my eyes.

It’s a tinpot thing to offer for clubs who struggle to attract fans. I only want city fans in our ground. There’s more than enough wanting tickets etc just the club doesn’t want to attract them or makes it difficult.

Be open to endless ridicule. Club just need to engage their brains and have the ticketing partners in check (we all know they won’t cut ties).

Would like to see loyalty points being a metric used for home games in some circumstances.

A lot of interesting and relevant points, but also a fair degree of exaggeration surrounding the exact number of non-City fans in the home end, and whether they're hardcore supporters of the opposition, the new breed of corporate affluence,(acting as though they're at Twickenham) or genuine naive tourists

Whether we like it or not, the football demographic has changed considerably and it's not just confined to the Etihad.
Indeed, as recently as last season's derby at Old Trafford, I could hear a United fan confess before the game:
"If we lose, I hope Bernardo Silva scores a hat trick because he's in my Fantasy League team"
I just wanted to kill every single person on the train.

However, where I disagree completely is with the idea that cheaper tickets will solve all the problems and result in vast swathes of legacy supporters returning to the stadium

No they won't. They'll just pick their games and not turn up for the unfashionable 12:30 kick offs against lowly opponents (some of whom might have supporters who live locally and have access to tickets for the home end etc etc)

If it was as simple as that then we wouldn't need any Plymouth fans on Saturday, especially as the tickets are good value.

This isn't going away, but it needs to be accepted by the club as a potential flashpoint and then controlled and funnelled towards a safety solution

No it wouldn't. The problem is tickets from the 3,000 allocation going to those who are not city fans. Whether it's club employees, official touting agencies, or fans selling to unofficial agencies or on the open market is irrelevant. Individual fans sending tickets to agencies won't result in several tickets together as seen at Anfield and Ipswich.
A few years ago there was an article online about touts having thousands of STs at PL grounds. They sell at slightly above face value which could be 30-40% above the cost of the ST seat.
If these touts bought STs when they were readily available then it's possible to have several next to each other at home games. However for away games they just buy under one name and distribute via F&F assuming they have the points.
We need a system where only City fans can apply for away game tickets. Hospitality ST holders would have to nominate the user, who ideally would have a membership number. This would get rid of some of the problems but would address mass touting scams. We don't want to have random ticket checks for away games even though that would help.
Thanks -

But.....my point is,that Away Match season tickets would ONLY be sold to accredited City fans (less accredited employees/sponsors).

Demand would exceed supply, thus requiring an 'individual quota allocation' to ensure a fair distribution and no monopolisation.

UnusableTickets to be reallocated via an Away Season Ticket portal ONLY.

NO SALE, RESALES or ALLOCATIONs to any THIRD PARTY AGENCIES !!

Would this be workable and fair ??
