Away fans / tourists in home sections

How much do gate receipts really matter to the clubs coffers? At the end of the day it’s a business to our owners and rightly so. They see a tourist coming in for their game and dropping a few hundred quid on tat in the store .. they another tourist for 2 more games doing the same and they’ve easily spent more than I spend on my season ticket and I don’t buy anything from the city store but I’m a miserable bastard. It’s not personal mate but it feels it to us old hands who’ve been through the shitter with this club and we blues have a strange love of the macabre so enjoyed every fucking second of it.

It's another meeting place for the hoi poloi removed by social engineering it is, remove the pubs replace them with clubs, knock down the schools they went to and replace those schools so no affinity can be had and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Football was the last place people of the same mind could congregate, but it soon wont be mate.

My friend returned his and his sons' seats for the Liverpool game because of other commitments. Sat in these seats which the club reimbursed him about £40 for the pair were two young lads from Austria who paid £360 to Football Ticket Net who presumably bought these from the club. This is what we're up against and why the club are no longer interested in selling to local supporters.
Just had a look on that site - there are about five tickets in the away end for Spurs, Forest and Everton. Wouldn’t surprise me if the club guaranteed a number of tickets as part of whatever deal they have.

Second point is that multiple clubs sell on there - for example, there are 22 pages of tickets for Arsenal v Chelsea. As has been pointed out previously PL clubs are all following the same formula - there must be tonnes of tourists in the home ends at Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and obviously Liverpool and United on a weekly basis.

Football really is fucked if this is the way it’s going. You just know City aren’t going to pass up their slice of the pie when other clubs are milking it from these sites. Sadly it’s all about greed and money.

I’ve been saying for weeks that something is going to kick off soon. And yesterday it did: 5 arrested for the South Stand Level 1 incident alone.

City’s ticketing policy is to the detriment of City fans yet it’s only City fans who get punished for it.

City will be quick to brandish bans to anyone involved yesterday yet they never used their stadium camera technology to find the Liverpool fan who hospitalised a teenage girl City fan with a cup full of coins.

I will maintain n’all, that yesterday will not be the worst we see. There is going to be a riot somewhere soon.
Yesterday was sweet FA.

There was a good reason why they couldn’t use camera technology that day. We didn’t have any.

So long as someone remembers the jelly babies we will still go mate

Agree with that too mate. This is game is a business more than ever. I heard a very similar convo around NFL recently and how virtually every team is about profit and the ticket prices there can be eye watering. Let’s face it for 90%+ it’ll never be about winning the league but being a relatively successful business. It’s even celebrated isn’t it. The likes of Brighton for example, finding players from nowhere and winning games they prob shouldn’t whilst also being very solvent . We fans see it differently, it’s an eternal conundrum I reckon. Even back in the day how many times did we sing about the board? I do think there is room for far more fan consideration though.

I would beware the opinions expressed in this thread because most are assumptions. Liverpool has always been a game where Scousers would get everywhere. I remember this from Maine Rd, and in my block there wasn't 1 incident of a Liverpool fan celebrating in our block. And that's in 600 people.

What is true though is that in midweek Cup games, a lot of seasoncard holders are no-showing and they are being replaced by another group. A lot of assumptions are being made about this group. IMO, they are locals. Others call them tourists but they can't evidence this.
Like you can’t evidence they’re locals?

I know who’s sat next to me for the last 18 months in the seat that’s been vacated by an ex-ST holder because I’ve chatted to them. They’ve been from Paris, Glasgow, Hong Kong, Seoul (a few have been from Seoul), Mexico City and many of the rest don’t converse with me when start to talk to them because they don’t understand what I’m saying because they’re tourists who don’t speak English.

It’s also a giveaway that the seat next to me is never available through City’s own ticket website, even when the seat has been empty for the game.

At other times I’ve spoken to them or had people I know who sit near to me with these tourists sat in their seat. This happens a lot down on ESL1 on the half way line, chancers who have tickets dispersed around the stand who get to the game early in groups and try and sit next to each other and try and get people who have tickets there to move elsewhere so they can sit together. They get told anything between ‘sorry, no, that’s my seat’ and ‘fuck off you ****’ and I’ve heard one lad come out with ‘fuck you shiddy ciddy’ in reply, he wasn’t a local and clearly wasn’t a City fan.

Or individual chancers (this happens more often than the groups) who pick a seat on the halfway line to sit in half an hour before kick off, then the ticket holder for that seat will turn up and they do things like show their phone with their seat number on because they don’t speak English and get told it’s three blocks away, but they just pick another spare seat a few rows away, then that person turns up, and they do this about eight times until they find a seat in our block where someone actually doesn’t turn up.

For one game, there was a deaf French lad who had a friend with him who did ask nicely and we a few of us shifted up a seat to let the two of them sit together.

For another game, there was a what sounded like a German/Austrian/Swiss (you know the accent) man and his Son who only looked about 7 who had got seats about four rows apart and a few lads shuffled about a bit so they could sit together, before Ze Germans got there.

If there’s ever a problem with the Metrolink, I’ll get the train to Piccadilly from the Airport instead. The amount of tourist with their City kits on getting on the train to the game is an eye opener. So how many are also going not to support us in the home stands?

The stories I heard from those that did go to Wembley when we boycotted it against Arsenal last season… they said it was just full of tourists.

Even in the FA Cup final against United in the treble season, I had what can only be described as a Venezuelan beauty queen sat next to me. She was fucking stunning, but a tourist in our end.

They’re tourists. You can tell they’re tourists. You can tell when they’re not tourists. You can tell when they’re Scousers/Cockneys, you can tell when they’re Mancunians. You can tell when they’re tourists supporting City or tourists just taking in a game because they like football and you can tell when they’re tourists supporting the opposition or even just an opposition player (like a good dozen of them shouting ‘MO MO MO’ when Liverpool were warming up yesterday).

It’s not fool proof, but you can just tell.

You can tell from the telly, just like you can at shit hole old Trafford. Like you say, you can just tell. It’s clear as fucking day.

Anecdotal prejudice.

I demand photos of Venezuelan beauty queen for proof

Yet the season before they could zoom in on people to see how many freckles they had on their nose and send the stills to the MEN.

We now have three categories of match attendees, which in many respects is a good thing, because it widens the fanbase -:
1) PL ....Traditional diehards.

2) Domestic Cups......Diehards, displaced fans, priced out fans, young Mancunians and families ( depending on ticket prices)

3) CL....Less diehards, some young displaced fans, some young Mancunians & families, thousands of tourists and 'one off' visitors.

Sensible, affordable pricing and conditions could shift the attendance balance back in favour of diehards, displaced, priced out young Mancunians and families.

Finally, is it possible to create a block in CBL1 or 3 exclusively for tourists and visitors, (neutral, mixed section), largely away from regular fans and out of sight of TV coverage ??

Brighton......£250 million interest free shareholder loan for years.

The ' invisible' financial advantage that City have highlighted as unlawful.

Retrospective, commercial 'high risk', compound interest charges should be payable ....in Brightons case say 10% per annum X length of the loan, millions of £ £ £ £ £ £s

No wonder Bloomberg voted against City's proposals.

There needs to be a stadium ban on half&half scarves and anybody who wearing other teams shirts get bins next to all the entrances they can throw them in there let make it look like we are the home team again
