Away fans / tourists in home sections

I went over to Italy a few weeks ago. Saw Milan/Fiorentina and Atalanta/Lazio.

Have no strong feeling for either team but really grateful I got the opportunity to go to both games.

Think day trippers get demonised a bit unfairly. Just people that want to watch a game of football.

Away supporters in home areas is a different issue.

It’s not ideal but the majority of Liverpool fans will have never seen them win the league in person, so I wouldn’t blame them for getting in wherever they could.

I, and plenty of others were in the Brighton end when we won the league. Which is pretty much the same thing.
Bradford end when we got promoted, it happens when demand outstrips supply

I don't think that's the issue tbh. The club giving tickets to touts to sell is the problem that I have.

Don't think anyone is against neutrals attending games ?
I've been fortunate to see games, as a neutral in Italy, Spain & Germany.
But, it's when the clubs collude with ticket agencies (i.e. posh touts) who don't inform the purchasers that they are in the "home" or "away" area.
I don't think this problem exists just at the Etihad either...

Reminds me of the time City played at Blackpool in the FA Cup in 88.
Ended up in a pub on a side street off the sea front before the game with many of the Guvnors in there (didn't know they were in the crew at the time) and lots of singing going on. At one point we were all singing "Manchester la la la" and this lad stands in the middle of the floor, whips his jacket off to reveal a rag replica shirt and carries on singing as if "we're all in this together aren't we lads".
Next thing after a few cracks, he jumps over the bar for protection and the barman throws him back over..... more slaps... the bouncers came down the stairs and dragged him out. The room went very quiet and one blue says "who was with him?" And one lad goes very sheepish and stood out like a sore thumb with his stance and posture. A Blue went up to him. "Are you a M*****?"
"No"
"You sure?" and pulls this lads sweatshirt down from his neck to reveal a rag replica shirt. More slaps. The bouncers come down again and save this lad from a proper good hiding.
The bouncers then return. "Are there anymore United fans in here? This is your chance to leave with us now because we aren't coming down again". Two relieved rags shuffled quickly across the room to rounds of laughter and jeers.

To this day I still can't fathom out why the first rag thought it would be all peace, love and understanding when he decided to reveal his colours during that song - or why they were there to begin with!
A Stockport rag I used to work with back in the 90s told me of this game they used to play called," running the pot". They would collect money in a pint pot then draw cards the highest card would have to go in the way end at OT and take his top off and show his United shirt. The winner could expect a good kicking but would get all the money in the pot and he was lucky safe passage off the dibble back to the Stretford End. It occurred to me maybe this rag was playing this game or may have been a dickhead

I think the latter!

It sums 99
Five and four all together. Club or OSC (unlikely given they'd have members queueing up for this game) probably the only ones who can get that amount in a block. No tout will be able to put that arrangement together

Been reading about it on twitter and saw videos of few punches being thrown. Chelsea fans moaning that club buying back tickets then selling to resale sites

Know it was an exceptional circumstance in terms of them winning the league title, but last thing I'd want to do is be sat in an away section as a home fan.

That's dippers for you though. Rather brazen.
Guessing you didn’t go the Blackburn promotion game then?

Yes, I did actually. Was only about 15 at the time. Four of us in the home end. I'm in the background of a few pictures including the Kennedy goal.

Blackburn aren't exactly known for their full attendances so there was always a likelihood there'd be blues in their end. The sheer scale of it though I think took everybody by surprise.

I feel home supporters in a sell out away section is completely different to getting into a ground that barely ever reaches capacity.

We were pretty much everybody's second favourite team at the time too and don't think many would begrudge us our day. The dippers on the other hand haven't exactly struggled by any normal supporters metrics. Still been picking up trophies fairly regularly and are probably the most despised fanbase in the country.

This. The problem isn't away fans in home sections, as at Blackburn, but home fans in away sections when the away team would have been able to sell all 3,000 to their own supporters.

I worked with a Blackburn season ticket holder. As he said, 'Why would I want to go and see City win the league', so he sold me his ticket and I gave it a long time Blue. I actually acquired 6 through him.

The scenes at Chelsea last night were a disgrace, I assume they're having similar issues with their owners ticketing policies.

Apparently they have partnerships with ticketmaster etc...
