People can find fault with anything if they try hard enough

Swansea was a meaningless end of season game a week before the biggest game of our season

Sensible fans will forgive the boys for a lack of intensity and a handful of missed chances

I bet we don't miss many next week

We need to finish second , or third at worst ..... finishing 4th would involve us in a Champions League qualifying game ...... for that reason alone we STILL need points , Chelsea are in form and right behind us.

Before the weekend games we needed 7 points from 4 games to guarantee 2nd spot

With 2 easy home games to come and a less than daunting trip to Reading it's perfectly understandable that we merely went through the motions against Swansea

Just nowhere near good enough to just be going through the motions though is it you tool ?

earlier in the season when we were down to 10 men at west brom arsenal and norwich yet found the way to win makes the qpr and southampton games such a mystery

Indeed .....

we appear to show a 'team-spirit' when it suits , and not on enough occasions ...... it was difficult to pick out anybody who actually played well at Southampton , and we just looked a complete mess at Loftus Road.

If we'd shown the same commitment at those two places that we displayed in the derby at Old Trafford last month i doubt we'd have lost either game.

Here is the actual away form table going on PPG. Thank god for Fortress Etihad (but we've even dropped more points there this season):

How many times do we hear managers, after their team putting on a great show against a top side, trot out the line "if we play like that every week we'll have nothing to worry about"

Players can't raise their game to 100% every week. The more there is on the game the more they put in is an indisputable rule of sport. Some weeks they do just enough to get by and on occasion they'll come unstuck.

Federer and Nadal don't play lights out tennis in every single round of every single tournament. Sportsmen have good days and bad days like everyone else.

The trick is though to win when you don't play well .... it's that what's makes the difference ...... and you won't do that on most occasions if you don't match the home sides efforts , which we certainly didn't do at Southampton ... and we definitely didn't do at Everton either .

If you want to be champions you cannot afford to turn up at places and have too many 'bad days' ... its consistency that wins league titles.

When 'push comes to shove' , as with last season , we have lost just FIVE league games , exactly the SAME as the rags , yet this time around we remain 13 points adrift of them ..... it's ridiculous!

On the money there Mamba. The vermin are not better than us when it comes to head to head, as we've proved several times in recent seasons. What they are though, is a far more consistent side than us. They just didn't drop as many silly points as we did this season, and they can win when not playing well. Most rag fans will admit that they haven't had that many stellar performances this season; they just have the knack of churning out win after win. We can't do that yet, not to the level they can anyway.
