From what I've seen of him which admittedly isn't much, he can go past a man, play a decent pass as well as be competitive. If Pep is to convert a defender into a defensive midfielder I'd say he is a far better bet than Stones. I'd still have Stones but leave him at centre half.

I would say Laporte is better defensively then Stones. Laporte will have to learn alot but in my opinion he's definitely the better option.

Met his release clause, apparently.

Laporte, Stones, Otamendi, Kompany and Denayer (who can also play right back or defensive midfielder). Looks like a fantastic set of options to me.

Given that Kompany is unfortunately injured most of the time, we need three top centre halfs. Kompany simply can't be relied on anymore, I'm sure he'll come in and be brilliant for a few games, then get injured again.

I don't think Laporte coming in means we aren't after Stones anymore, I think we're after both.

Agree mate

It’s time for Manchester City-Laporte: In a few days the 50 million release clause will be paid

The first reinforcement for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is set to arrive shortly. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager will be satisfied as Manchester City have invested in one of the positions he deemed vital. Aymeric Laporte will be the center-back Guardiola so desperately wanted. The young defender turned 22 just a couple of days ago and is one of the best players in his position at the moment. In a few days Manchester City will pay Athelitic Bilbao the player’s 50 million euro release clause, at the moment the documents to finalize the deal are being prepared both in England and Spain. The youngster has given his blessing to the transfer, he couldn’t say no to Pep’s call. The new Manchester City is starting to shape up.
