why some citizens attack Athletic or Aymeric? Dont you understand that we are a different club? We prefer loosing trophies with athletic than winning with another club, obviously many of our players go to huge clubs of europe like bayern, juve or united but they like to stay here the maxim possible.

Too many citizens called us losers... do you think City could win anything with madrid or barsa in the same league? You cant win a league against tottenham, leicester and arsenal and do you really think that you could win something with madrid, barsa and atletico? Many of you dont really know how difficult is the spanish league with those three and villarreal or sevilla.

You must learn something about us before calling us whatever... This year for example we have won 5-1 against barsa the spanish supercup, sevilla won us in quarter finals of UEL in the penalties, by 1. In the last 6 years we have played 6 finals, in fact we are losers, but those of 6, 5 were against Barcelona and 1 against atleticos cholo, with our tradition its not easy... but we are happy with that. (for example the last year 80k people went to barcelona to play the spanish cup final in his own stadium, and everyone known we went there to loose, but anyway we were more athleticzales than cules in camp nou).

Athletic is different, unique in the world, all of our players are formed on a basque cantera or are basques., and our players know it, they are a family, they stay too many years here in family, and not just young players.

We dont wont a millionary team, of course we want to won trophies, but with our rules, and now we are not a huge team, but we are the 10th club of the biggests leagues with more trophies, we have 36, we have never played at second division, just madrid, barsa and us have done it.

You can learn about us in this english video,
hope you enjoy it.

Sorry if i have some misspellings, i dont speak english since 2008, and sorry if someone feels im attacking city, im not doing that,i like english clubs (in bilbao english people started playing football, and the first years we played with some english). You have a really good team and one of the best trainers of the history, wen he was at barcelona he said that he want to train us, and im waiting for that day). I know is a long text, but last weeks i came here to look for information about the transfer and i need to make some of you know how is our club.

Aupa athletic and aupa manchester city!!!!!!! agur

good, chance for Denayer to shine then.
now get Stones deal, and keep Otamendi and Mangala.
there is other young left footed CB that City might want to look at
- e.g Inigo Martinez, Romagnoli.

Hi
London-based Athletic fan here, I've been following Bluemoon for the last few days to try to keep up to date on the Laporte situation.

I'm not Basque, been a fan of the club since living in Bilbao for a while in the 1990s. I just wanted to respond to some of the recent posts about the club.

I obviously get how the club's philosophy can be seen as xenophobic, but I think that to the majority of Athletic fans, it's about supporting a team that is made up of players who just as much fans of the team as they are.

The philosophy of the club is to sign players who are either basque or were "formed" as footballers in the Basque Country, so are likely to share the fan's passion for the club. Laporte isn't French basque, like Bixente Lizarazu (for those who remember him) or Didier Deschamps in fact. Laporte moved to a French basque team when he was 14.

When David Beckham was at Real Madrid, a journalist asked the then president of Athletic Club if Brooklyn Beckham could ever play for Athletic. The reply was yes, if he moved to the Basque Country as a young player so could learn what the club means to the fans and the players.

I went to watch Athletic U19s play Arsenal U19s a few years ago, and watching the youth teams made the philosophy make more sense in my mind. The Athletic players were all kids who had grown up supporting the club. The majority of the Arsenal players probably hadn't ever thought, let alone dreamt, about playing for Arsenal until they were recently signed from whatever club they were previously at.

Anyway, all of this isn't to say that the Athletic way is a "better" way, and there are obviously Athletic fans out there who would swap the "philosophy" for more success. But I don't think it's fair to write it off as racist or xenophobic.

I'll stop boring you all now!

Not boring at all mate, thanks for coming on and telling us how it is.

It makes a nice change to see loyalty in a player instead of the nonsense that surrounding our cake muncher.

Best of luck for the season

I think City fans need to calm down a touch , he's staying at his club for reasons important to him, this isn't about Txiki failing as him turning down any top six PL club shows lack of ambition, he won't win anything at Bilbao- may reach the odd domestic cup final if he's lucky.Hes turned down CL football every season and turned down playing under Pep, he's obviously very settled where he is.

He should be applauded to some degree for staying at his boyhood club- it's a loyalty sadly lacking in modern day footballers.

Fair play to Laporte.

Not joining us doesn't mean he's "bottled it" and I don't think he'll regret the decision one bit. He'll be even more adored by their fans now.

Plenty of embarrassing tantrums were being thrown last night and I can see why Athletic fans feel the need to defend themselves.

A talented young player but he's not exactly one of the best in the world is he? On to the next one.

Not boring at all mate, thanks for coming on and telling us how it is.

No problem. Just occurred to me that Ander Herrera was born in Bilbao but grew up playing for Zaragoza. Didn't come to Athletic until he was 21 I think. Interesting that it was Laporte, the non-basque who was "formed" as a player in the Basque Country, who decided to stay when another club came knocking.

Total respect to Laporte, It clearly means a lot to him to play for Athletico, it would have been easy to take the cash and come to us.

We both move on, it's up to Denayer to take his chance and who knows it maybe a second chance for Mangala.

Fair play to the lad, if I was playing for City 10 years ago I wouldn't have signed for Barcelona, even if it did double my wages. The lad clearly has a bond with Bilbao and it means more to him that trophies or financial gain. It's sort of refreshing really, just a shame we're on the other end of it.

We move on, bring Stones in and give Denayer a chance to shine.

People need to calm down. I am disappointed that he doesn't sign for us but you have to understand his point of view as well. If he's happy there then that's all that matters. Trophies aren't the be all end all. What good is a championship trophy if you're gonna be miserable? They are all human beings first than footballers.
