We were doing all the paperwork and getting ready to interview him and he did a late u turn and signed a new deal where he is with a 70 euro release clause,Ric said we were blindsided, his club and he both confirmed he is staying put

Thanks Kaz, Ah Ok then fuck him very much then!

Interesting quote attributed to Laporte on Athletico Bilbao website on staying 'best option for me at the moment'

Perhaps as already suggested, Barca or Real have intimated a future interested or perhaps even City have suggested he waits until January and he is over the injury .

Nothing to suggest a lack of ambition.

100% late tap up by Barcelona.

I'd be surprised if a player of his calibre would doubt his ability to develop and thrive under Pep.
He is 22 and has been with his club since he was 16,i think he chickened out at the lat minute,no probs with that but he could have let us know sooner or he used us to get a better contract, either way he isn't coming so we move on

I think he's on a different path. Barca or Real in 12 months

Disappointing, but as the philosopher Jagger says, you can't always get what you want. Let's get a little bit of perspective on this. If the lad wants to stay at his own club, that's one thing. If he moved in this transfer window to another club in Europe, having turned us down, that would be quite another. And if he moved to one of our direct PL rivals, that would be quite another again. So long as the last two don't happen — and as recently as five or even four years ago, they were happening — we've got to be stoical, and move on.
