I used to catch the buses from Aytoun St but just remember them as being football specials

Used to leg it down from Piccadilly Station and dive on the first special from Aytoun Street.

I would catch the 38 in Walkden, Westhoughton and Little Hulton platoons were already on the bus. It stopped at Greengate arches.
We would go in the Old Ship, a Boddington pub just before Victoria Bridge with a Log End Dart board.
We would then get on the 102 from Victoria Bridge and get off at Princess Park Way at the end of Claremont Road, its destination was Woodhouse Park.
My mate Tommy was still paying 2p when he was 21 and had a full beard.
Aytoun Street was a good walk from Victoria so we only used it if there was no 102 due.

Used to get the 123 from outside the Manchester Arms by Victoria Station.
It went a convoluted route and stopped about ten minutes walk from the ground before continuing towards bandit country.

I used to get that bus,used to get home from school quick change,2p no 9 bus from Fairfield to bury 60p return ticket from Bolton street station to Victoria 2p 123 bus to Maine road 10p bag of chips 60p on the kippax.them were the days!!!!

Apparently in the old days there used to be a big labour exchange on Aytoun St and if u were out of work, you would say you were playing for Aytoun rovers. Any know if this is true or have I been spun a yarn for all these years?

Sounds plausible. That labour exchange is still there you know. I don't think it's been used for the best part pf30 years. Surprised it hasn't been redeveloped.
