The council sued the Architect and got their money back, including the cost to dismantle.

Is this true, as I hope it is. For it to start falling to bits on public footpaths seems like a solid case to sue him for a shirt job.

The actual sculpture was quite good and I liked it.

This is a sorry tail, the sculpture was funded by an ERD Fund (European Grant), the NWDA (Regional Development Agency Grant) and MCC to the tune of 1.42 Million, MCC sued the Architect and contractors and they settled out of court for 1.7 Million.

MCC promised to store the sculpture and rebuild, because it was funded by public and European money mostly, I am not sure if the monies were returned to respective agencies, but MCC have no appetite for replacing it and it does not feature on the Campus project so I assume the money has ended up in the council pockets.

I personally also liked the sculpture, and was sad to see it dismantled.

I'm pleased to see a few other people saying they actually quite liked it. I always thought I was the only one!

No you aren't the only one mate. My Dad really admired it as well. Personally I thought it was a crock of shite and a waste of money.

I actually liked it, at the time it seemed a bit out of place it grew on me though. still, didn't justify a fraction of its cost.

Cheers mate. Sounds a right sorry affair. It did look good. Hopefully something else may replace it, but not being so dangerous or so expensive.

Liked it, might have been better shiny, but thats personal choice.
And would undoubtedly been better if it hadnt started to fall apart - they were blaming the manufacture of some of the spikes I last heard.
The bloke who designed it has done some great stuff, and most of it seems to still be in 1 piece

Would have been better in stainless steel, agree.
It ended up looking like a dead dandelion
