EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal eye Sturridge as Chelsea star grows weary of wide role

Chelsea face a battle to keep Daniel Sturridge after Arsenal took significant steps towards a shock summer swoop.
Sturridge, 22, is the Blues’ top-scoring forward this season with 10 goals, but sources close to the player claim he is not happy with his role as a right winger under Andre Villas-Boas.
And Arsenal’s influential chief scout Steve Rowley has put the wheels in motion to effect a surprise switch.

Sturridge wants to negotiate an improved contract, yet Chelsea are unwilling to do so as he still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal.
And with the likes of Hulk and Edinson Cavani on Villas-Boas’ shopping list, Sturridge’s current wide role is likely to continue.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

Yes, I think he'd be a good option for us. Can forget the furore over when he left. Shame he wasn't persuaded to stay to be honest, but fair play he's done ok for himself.

I can't see Chelsea letting him go for under £10m though, so Arsenal won't be signing him most likely.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

Yes, one of the two players that I wish we never got rid off and would take back in an instant.

The other is Bellamy.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

In a heartbeat, another valid reason as to why Hughes should have went on the same day of the takeover.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

the fee for Sturridge was decided by a tribunal. The Professional Football Compensation Committee decided on 14 January 2010, that Chelsea would pay an initial fee of £3.5 million with additional payments of £500,000 after each of 10, 20, 30 and 40 first-team competitive appearances. There will also be a further payment of £1 million if the player makes a full international appearance, and Manchester City will receive 15 percent of any sell-on fee if Sturridge is transferred.

so far that would mean we have recieved £5.5m from inital and appearances, then I think he has played for England since (?!) so £6.5m, offer them £10m (and we'll get 15% back... so will only pay £2m for him... easy!

Re: Re: Are you supporting the right team?

Yes, but only if he was prepared to play wide in a front three.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

Yep defo.

I read an article the other week and it was said that bobby pulled him aside and said "why did you leave i would of never let you go"

and that mark hughes just let him go cause all he was bothered about was signing big name players and danny wanted a little extra money but it was in a paper so who do you believe.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

So, he was unhappy with City over relatively minor financial considerations... he's unhappy at Chelsea because while he starts, it's not quite in the position or formation he likes.... Seems to me he'd be miserable back in our rotation.

I think he's talented, but I say no. He's not good enough to have the prima donna complex he seems to have. Mancini is building a team who are happy to play in whatever position they are asked to play and help the team win. If he's leaving Chelsea over that reason, I don't want him.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

In hindsight yes.

At the time I was furious at him leaving but have since learnt a lot about Hughes, enough to know that Hughes made some huge fuck ups, sturridge probably being the worst.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

Absolutely NOT! One of the most brainless players I have ever watched. Selfish beyond reason, and a ME first ALL THE TIME player.

That is one talent I am happy we are done with. He can go score 50 for Arsenal. Goodluck and good riddance.
