Bad career moves

Punching my boss and trying to throw him through HMV window on a works doo probably wasnt the smartest move
Did he like his music then?

In fairness a Susan Boyle cd is a pretty shit Christmas bonus.
I'd have to say that being BB2's fluffer in the gay porn epic 'Ginger Scatfest' was probably a low point, and something I tend to play down at job interviews.

I cant name names for legal reasons but i have made one really bad career move.

I ended up working in a privately run public health laboratory as a principle scientist. My manager asked me to falsify results. I refused and reported him to his manager, who said he would investigate. A couple of days later i was auditing a piece of analytical equipment and found the lab had been releasing results we couldnt verify, which is against the law as these related to materials that subsequently entered the food chain. I didnt feel confident about reporting it to my boss as he had already asked me to falsify results, so i reported it to his boss, the man who was supposed to be investigating my boss. His response was astonishing, and I quote "dont worry its not the only place we are breaking the law". I spent about 2 hours mulling this over and then handed my notice in and reported them to the relevant authorities.

If I had been single my mulling would have been about 30 seconds, but as I was the sole wage earner with a wife and 2 kids a little longer was required.

Obviously taking the job was the bad career move. Quitting was a good career move

To my boss if he was any younger I would of knocked him out (he was70) got the boot 2 days later of work 8 weeks done the house up and got a better job .

Took the first job that came along after leaving the RAF. The company were so wank, that they payed you with a cheque on the last working day of the month after the banks had shut.

Left after six months and moved on up!

A really bad career move for me years ago turned into the most fortuitous set of circumstances in the space of just a week back in 1995. I was 21 and an Assistant Manager of Ciro Citterio in Altrincham and got Head Hunted by Ralph Lauren to Manage their Department in Rackhams with a £75 a week wage increase. I gave my months notice in and left on good terms with the Area Manager who understood my decision but was sad to see me leave. I started on the Monday but hated it by the Thursday and was regretting my move, this is when my luck changed, my old Area Manager came to see me on Friday as they had quickly bought another company from Administration and offered me a Managers job with another £100 a week wage increase on top of the £75 quid I'd got for moving to Ralph Lauren. I started on the Monday in my old shop £175 a week better off than I'd left 9 days before - happy days ! Been in the same industry ever since with 17 years Managerial experience under my belt :)

Charity. I worked in Finance for just shy of 10 years and took a career break with some money behind me. I volunteered in a Head Office and then got a Temp job to learn as much as I could. I had a bad experience at the first place (angry Supporters and non-Supporters alike) but gained enough experience to get a permanent gig elsewhere in Supporter Services. They were nowhere near as hardcore in terms of how they raised income but they were horrendously divided as an organisation - and I left within a year.

I'm now back in the Private Sector but now within Publishing which is a pleasure. 3 years of great fun and never a quiet day.

Going to see @@@@@@ @@@@@@@ and leaving halfway through the gig, ringing my boss, and telling him I hated it, they couldn't play, and that it would be a waste of money signing them.

So embarrassed I'll never name them ... thankfully I had a hit not long after so although it was a bad career move, it didn't hurt the career as much as it hurt my pride.
