Forget Bale Spurs are a joke of a club to deal with.
Agreed they'll want £40 million

That doesn't make them a joke of a club to deal with. They're not obliged to sell their best players, and if they do they're entitled to demand top price for them. As much as I dislike Spurs, I respect the way they held onto Modric last season and I suspect they'll do the same with Bale this summer.

You respect the fact, that despite their lack of intelligence with management and transfer issues, they hold their players ransom? Lest we not forget they are not Bolton. This is a club and set of players that gave everything only to fall due to poor managerial tactics and lack of depth. If they are serious about challenging for the title they might want to invest in backups. Their fullbacks and midfield were jaded by April.

I dont respect a club that wants to have it's cake and eat it too. They are a dire bunch.

Which players have they "held to ransom"? Modric chose to sign a long term contract, so Spurs were in a relatively strong position when he subsequently decided he wanted to leave.

yep we always appear so accommodating with transfers out the club

Bale won't fit in at City, he might be the best winger in the world at the moment but we don't play with wingers, keep AJ and sign a back-up to Silva and Nasri.Martinez is a must imo.

Rubbish, plain and simple.................

Bale would fit in anywhere, we need speed in counter-attacks (if we need anything), and we need the option of width against sides that "park the bus".

"Held to Ransom" - If you're going to quote me at least quote me correctly ;)

Modric was given a pay raise when he realized there was no way in hell Levy would sell him. Its a bit different than choosing to stay. It was either take the contract, subsequently raising his transfer value in the process, or leave it. No one in their right mind would object to a pay raise despite being unable to move.

They have repeatedly bit back at those interested in their players. And while in many cases this may seem like a good move, they don't seem like a club interested in investing heavily to make Champions League a possibility once more. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle have all made more noise this summer by at least attracting interest in new players in different facets of their squads.

Spurs sat out the last window and ended up with the likes of Saha instead of Loic Remy. They are unlikely to resign their top scorer (Ade), and they are unlikely to invest anymore in their key weakness (defence). Leandro is unlikely to solve any of their problems.

I don't respect a club placing insanely high price tags on players to keep hold of them when they are wavering on almost every single level of business pertaining to club matters.

According to one report this morning it looks as though we may be looking to trade both Adebayor & Adam Johnson in the potential transfer for Bale

Get it done I say, Adebayor would be off our wage bill and AJ who as Bobby stated has potential has not moved up another level.

I know just because it's never happened doesn't mean it couldn't, but has there ever been a 2-for-1 swap like that that included 3 quality players all moving? Surely Adebayor to Spurs and then maybe Bale for AJ + cash would be separate transactions (though funding both moves).

I don't know where I read it but someone said we want cash transactions on the books for some reason. Ade has been there last season so getting anything more than say 8m would probably be good business. AJ cost us 12m still young ao I reckon that could cost Spurs 20m for the pair but would probably want 40m for bale. How they organise it no idea, but suspect would go the same lines as the Milner/Ireland deal.

I think 20m for Johnson is optimistic. Yeah, I know Downing went for that and he's half the player, but I think that was just an isolated deal of idiocy from a desperate Liverpool side with money to burn.

edit-though I see you said 20m for the pair, which I think would be too low.
