Manchester City players are confident that the club will make a move for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, according to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter.
The journalist was speaking on Sky Sports show Revista de La Liga about Ronaldo’s future and said that the reigning Ballon d’Or holder is being watched by a number of clubs who want to test Madrid’s resolve.
It’s been known for some time that Ronaldo’s relationship with the club isn’t in top shape, the forward recently blasting the fans for booing the players after a home defeat to Schalke.
Around the same time more than a third of Real Madrid fans voted that they would drop him from the starting line-up.
Recent displays of petulance show Ronaldo to be at odds with teammates like Gareth Bale, the Portuguese attacker looking annoyed when the former Spurs player scored in a win over Levante.
Hunter claims that these signs aren’t going unnoticed by the continent’s richest clubs and they are taking it as a subconscious come-and-get-me plea.
Hunter said: “I know that the players at Manchester City were talking very, very firmly that they believed there was a successful move coming from that club over the last couple of weeks.
“Whether that makes it true or not, I wouldn’t like to say.
“What we know is the mega clubs, with petrodollars, there’s never been a better time to say: ‘Well, would you like to cash in on your chips?’”
Fellow Spanish football aficionado Guillem Balague weighed in with his opinion, saying that he believes with all his heart that Ronaldo would be at Madrid next season.
