Ballon d'Or 2023 | Haaland finishes 2nd

Think it is important for the players, I once won player of the season, as a Gk that took some doing, team was full of sunday league pissheads though :), but I'm still very proud of it many years later

I was just thinking about this the other day, and honestly, if we were to win the treble or even just Prem + CL double, with Haaland scoring 50+ goals across all competitions and breaking record after record, it would frankly look utterly ridiculous if he didn't win it.

Messi had a huge WC and it was a massive milestone achievement for him. But he already won the Golden Ball for that tournament. It doesn't mean he deserves the award for best player of the entire season. Outside of the WC, he's been fine at PSG but they had a rubbish CL campaign and got knocked out the Coupe de France early on. It's been a very poor year by their standards.

If we compare it to the time that Modric won, he at least got to a WC final with an underdog country and won the CL. Giving it to Messi is just pandering, at this point. It's like when they hand out Oscars to older actors just because of their past work or "legacy" without actually judging them on their performance for that specific year.

With all that said, I still think they'll give it to Messi, because they hate us. But the Ronaldo and Messi days are over now, and they won't be able to ignore big Erl forever.

I don’t even think he’s been City’s best player this season.
