Balotelli, Boateng, Kolarov, Silva, Yaya Toure, Milner

All the Milner bashing is s bit harsh. The lads played out of position. He looked good in the centre against Salzburg.

Silva for me.

I think the criticsm of Yaya has been mostly unfair. He's had the most difficult transition to make (barcelona to the premier league is a helluva difference) and has played in a different role to the one he is used to. He's been criticised for being lazy and not tracking back when his role in the side is to stay in an advanced position. He is far more skilful than I expected and his ability to run 80m with the ball is awesome. We wont see the best of him this season but next year I expect him to be rated at least on a par with Essien.

Boateng has disappointed in the sense that he's demonstrated he really is a centre back whereas I'm sure he was bought mainly to play at full back for the next couple of seasons.

Balotelli is still the big unknown. Might be an all time great, might not be here in February.

All Mancini's signings have been important if not always impressive.

Silva 9/10. Looks great. Superb killer pass, eye for goal, good engine and brave, all of which will improve. can't wait to see how much and only in his mid 20's.

Balotelli. 8/10. Potential beyond words. So far has looked very dangerous in every game, looks like he could score at will. Effort and attitude could be called into question, but he's very young and that is true of nearly all football greats. Even Zidan saw red in the most important game of all. Again I can't wait to see Balotelli for fill his potential or at least some of it!

Toure. 8/10 Great strength, vision, power, skill & drive. If he plays at full tilt in all games we will have one hell of a player. He's getting better each week. He could be the lynchpin of any future success. I think his slow start was due to him under estimating the Prem and not getting his head & fitness right. I expect him to dominate after christmas.

Kolarov. 7/10. Much needed attacking aggression down the left. Height, speed, strength and passing ability have all looked good, fitness and experience in the Prem will see him become one of the best about.

Boateng. 7/10 Potential of 9/10 can look awesome, likewise can look awful.
With confidence, fitness and experience will become a very strong player.

Milner. 6/10. In my opinion was bought to play centrally in place of Barry, but Barry's form has been Milner's bad luck, plenty of game time, some good and some ordinary performances. In some home games I'd give him a sneaky try at right back, he would give us pace, running and strength with a good final product on the right.

Johnson 7.5/10. Could be great, potentially very exciting, great skill and technique, with good coaches the right attitude he will be a very valuable asset.

Viera. 8/10. On field he is ordinary, nothing special. His experience in and around the club, leadership at the club are invaluable. Players respect him, he has been responsible for helping Balotelli, and in my opinion has helped bring De Jong onto a different level.

My opinion (in rank order):

Silva - 10/10.

Kolarov - 7/10.

Yaya Toure - 7/10.

Balotelli - 6/10.

Milner - 6/10.

Boateng - 6/10.

Silva 9/10 still don't think we have seen the best of him yet.

In terms of usefulness to the squad:

Silva - 9

Yaya - 6

Kolarov - 9

Boateng - 6

Milner - 5

Balotelli - 9

Interesting you should say that, De Jong has started to become a much, much better passer since January time and the last couple of games Ballo seems to have calmed down a little, if as you say it is down to Viera he definitely has proved his worth, should stay on as a coach after he retires, he would be invaluable to have.

Forgot about Vieira.

1/10 for performances and ability.

Behind the scenes I don't know but he's a player so that's what I judge him on.

Mario Balotelli: 7/10

Jerome Boateng: 6/10

Aleksander Kolarov: 7/10

David Silva: 8/10

Yaya Toure: 7/10

James Milner: 6/10

Great contradiction.
