The problem you get is the game wasn't of much benefit to us where as its put a bit of money in the coffers for Limerick, one or two dickheads ends up spoiling it for the club as City are less likely to agree to go back, I was also very suprised with the amount of rags there
I'm surprised that you're surprised at that, to be honest. This country is swarming with the vermin.
Maybe he's surprised because why would a united fan pay to watch city play
Fair point. I hadn't read the post carefully enough, and assumed he was talking about outside the ground or in the centre of town.

Agree that there are far too many vermin this side of the Irish sea, but there are also a lot of match going blues (an amazing amount considering how long we were in the doldrums for), and it is good to see the club acknowledging this support, both with the CITC coaching sessions last year with the Cup, the friendlies in Dublin last year, Limerick this year, Cookstown Branch are having a dinner in October with club representatives and ex-players in attendance (not sure of the full details yet).
Maybe next summer the side can find their way back North, or enter the Milk Cup again.

There's a weird football culture in Ireland that is partially reflected in incidents like this.

Not the racism parts, I've no idea about that. But the fact that so many clowns claiming that they are rags would pay to see City wearing rag tops.

You'd think, given that they are most probably from Limerick, that they would see that the team from where they live have a match and decide that they are going to go and support them.

But because the vast majority of them never support 'their' team in any way other than watching them on tv or saying 'I'm a United fan', they see it as an opportunity to validate their support by going with a United top on and booing players.

Sad stuff.

Ireland should be able to muster a thriving little league, given the level of interest in football that the population claims to have. Yeah, it would be a minor league, but it should be a lot, lot better the the current set up. But live football and Irish football is shunned by the population in general in favour of sitting on their arses boasting that they are 'massive' fans of 'Man U', Celtic and others.

That isn't being a fan of football, in my view. It is being a fan of glamour, success and reflective glory. And summed up by sad cases going to this match and seeing it as their chance to show that they are a 'proper' rag.

Imagine that the rags were playing a friendly at Stockport or Rochdale. Who on Earth would consider going to watch them in a City top? Mental.

So what do you feel about people like myself and many others that travel over to watch City up to 20 times a season and have done for years, and not just the good times?

Who ever it was has apparently been banned for life from games.

I saw a few fans in the limerick end wearing rag shirts, not saying it was them but really wouldn't surprise me if it was considering that (apparently) all the top teams in Europe have played limerick before with no trouble reported then the one time we play them united fans turn up and this happens!

Maybe its a classic case of wrong place wrong time, but a united fan has nothing to lose from being permanently banned from limerick games.

Well, that is obviously different from the sit on your arse "I say I am a massive fan of XXXX, therefore I am" type that I am talking about. A lot different.

However, without wishing to get into an argument, I will never get my head around people randomly choosing to support a team from somewhere that they have no connection to (which I am not saying applies to you, I don't know your family history) and have never met anyone who does that with a club like Rochdale.

Although I'm not up for getting into a debate on this as that view always gets misconstrued as 'telling people they have no right to support' someone. Which I wouldn't want to do or would have any ability to do.

Its a shame about the banana incident ,there always seems be some attention seeking wanker at popular events, like the 100m last night some knob threw a bottle gave a load of verbals . But I won't be labelling limerick fans as racist because of 1 idiot
