Arsenal actually used to have a brass band performing at matches at Highbury.Think they still had them until late 70s/early 80s?Remember a plastic liverpool "fan" from school accomponying us to a game at Maine Rd some time in late 80s. He'd never been to a game before and asked in all seriousness if there would be a brass band at HT. As this is what he wouldve seen watching cup finals and internationals live.
And we sang back to them "we want the Buzzcocks"I remember at Arsenal away, The Shamen singing (miming) Ebeneeza Goode.
Sad!!
Definitely there in 1978. We ended up in the Clock End but the band were in the lower bit of the East Stand and we walked past them. Lost 3-0 unfortunately. Well remember the Shamen!!Arsenal actually used to have a brass band performing at matches at Highbury.Think they still had them until late 70s/early 80s?
Wonder if the Tuba player ever said to the Trombone player 'got any Vera's?' In any of those type of bands?.
WTF is this poster going on about?
Just looked at the lyrics to the earlier mentioned Ebeneezer Goode
by The Shamen who 'sang' the song at half time during a City match, seems the song is pretty much 'loaded' with drug references!!
Bloody hell, I always thought it was D,Ream. Did we have sky diving as well.Just seen a video on YouTube of Undercover doing Baker Street at half time v QPR , first ever MNF on Sky in 1992 . Did we ever have any other bands playing at half time back when Sky first started showing footy ? I would normally of gone for a wee and a pint
The band was the Metropolitan Police brass band, and were a regular fixture at the ground. The first time I went to Highbury was the 1967/68 season, and they were there then.Definitely there in 1978. We ended up in the Clock End but the band were in the lower bit of the East Stand and we walked past them. Lost 3-0 unfortunately. Well remember the Shamen!!
She wanted to build the tallest floodlights but settled for pyramids in Stockport.I remember Cleopatra at Maine Road, that’s about it
