It's tied up in the court system at the moment, just have to await a legal decision from the judges now that the banks' appeals have failed.

The big worry is that if the charges are deemed illegal, they'll think of new ways to recoup that profit. Such as charging us for the privilege of having an account.

What he said. I think the charges will be deemed illegal as the same thing happened with credit card charges. That resulted in £12 maximum charges on credit cards. Maybe banks will be made to go the same route and have a maximum charge set in place, but they are only in businesss to make money, so I'd expect further charges on things that we get for free at present.

It isn't as imminent as is being suggested on here. The banks will appeal to the Lords and if they lose that they will appeal to Europe. A resolution is at least a year away. If they have to accept it we'll end up paying monthly charges for current accounts, every standing order, direct debit etc..
