Barcelona charged with corruption

You’d have to be a particularly blinkered fan to think that the fact they were bribing referees for the entirety of Peps tenure isn’t going to impact how most people think of that team.
Surprised he wasn’t asked about it in his press conference. Embargo maybe?

99% of non-City fans say the same about our charges.

You're probably right, but until they are guilty, there are plea deals and more brown envelopes to be played, no doubt.

They paid the man €7m and in 6 months neither he nor Barcelona have managed to produce a single pre-match report that he was supposed to do for that money.

It’s been confirmed he had influence over the promotion/relegation of referees and which ones got picked.

They’ve admitted to the tax office they can’t explain what the money was for, they’ve almost conceded the case already.

Perhaps they’ll suddenly remember in court?

Barca and Madrid tend to get away with everything, so whilst your evidence seems damning and watertight, who knows what the verdict will be.

Hold on a mo. “Bribing referees” are they accused of paying more than one person? Or of directly paying refs?

People tend to not hide exculpatory evidence until the trial.

The thing is, the charge of bribery doesn’t actually require a quid pro quo in Spain.

You don’t need to prove what the accused did for the money, just that they were in a position of influence, and there’s no good explanation for the payment.

If Barca and/or Negreira (who is facing 6 years in prison, as well as his son and 3 Barca execs) could produce a reason for the payments this would be stopped in its tracks.

Maybe UEFA will go easy on them, but the Spanish prosecutors have got them all tied up.
