Do you think he's finally lost his starting place in the England team? Wilshere is now in as a holding midfielder.

Probably, unless Wilshere has a complete mare. Barry took a long time to establish himself with England, but he had a good 2-3 years and unfortunately for him a shite World Cup, when he wasn't fully fit. He might stick around the squad for the next season or 2 if he maintains his form for us, but think he'll be a back up only from now on. And that's probably how it should be.

Hopefully it will extend his club career either with us (probably as a squad player) or elsewhere (if we can get a decent fee for him)

I think he is on his final few caps with England. Wilshere will be the future of that position for a long time. Very good on the ball. Also when Huddlestone is fully fit I would expect to see more of him in the England squad mainly because both are better on the ball and have a little bit more than Barry.

Wilshere's at 19 years old is an excellent player , and an outstanding , if unpredictable , talent ...

and Gareth Barry (now 29) hasn't really done himself much justice in an england shirt , so it's no real suprise ....... at least not to me anyway ...... Capello is probably just thinking ahead!

The lynch-pin of our assault on the world cup in South Africa - nothing more needs to be said really.

The world and his dog have been writing off Barry for both us and England for a while now yet both Mancini and Capello stick with him so I suspect he will be around until the Euro's so no I don't think this spells the end for Barry

Im quite happy that wilshire is playing instead of barry anyway, we'll need him on saturday

This. In fact, I hope Hart and Milner don't play either. I'm also hoping that Kolarov, Silva and anyone else away on internationals doesn't play. These friendlies are fucking stupid this late into the season.

The lynch -pin was supposed to be Rooney-a player thought to be ten times better than Barry-if rooney had actually held the ball up and created chances maybe the focus would not have been on Barrys lack of pace when dealing with fast counter attacks from the opposistion-doesn,t matter how good your midfield is,if your forwards can,t hold the ball youir on a hiding to nothing.

Always makes me chuckle when i read folk slagging Gareth Barry. Apart from Tevez, Barry has been picked by Mancini more than any other player since he took over at City. he was a virtual ever-present at Villa. and England. O,neill,Capello and Bobby Manc all rate him highly. His performance against chelsea earlier this season was as feisty and important as de-jongs contribution -he may not score spectacular goals, make bone crunching challenges or spray 40 yard passes or dribble round three players but you have to have a barry in your team, knitting it all together, making the interceptions, linking defence and forward play with simple ,accurate passing, keeping the midfield shape and covering for others lack of tactical discipline-thats why two italian managers pick him every time.

Never understood the stick Barry got for one of Germany's goals when the German player went past him on the touchline.

Yes. he probably should have done better, but in fairness there should have been 4 defenders between him and the goalkeeper. It's not his fault the back four couldn't keep their discipline and had all gone walkaround.
