Hargreaves for me, was genuinely pissed off when he signed for them, and one of his first games against us (1 nil Geo) he was absolutely everywhere. Always admired him from when he was at Bayern and his England performances in-particular!

If only he was still at Bayern when our money came in and he was injury-free. If only...........

I am convinced that if Sven had been appointed a few weeks earlier we would have signed Hargreaves.

What a signing he would have been as well, a real tidy player who has been very unfortunate in his career!

Hagreaves, he is a great player.

For years everybody thought he was wank... then had a good world cup (whilst the rest were shit and he stood out)... now everybody thinks he is the missing link.. he is not.

I remember a quiz on the radio... the question was which two words make every England fan go 'aaarrrggghhhh' it ran for ages and the answer was 'Owen Hargreaves'... spot on! He still is that player despite a better than average world cup.

sorry to be pedantic ...but they could be classed as world beaters...as they won the european dna world club championships...barry has won ..ermmm...

It could be argued that fletcher and Hargreaves ahve won a high number of trophies , in hargreaves case in a different country ...and Barry has won ...zip..

surely thats an accurate measure of a player?

Nope. It's more an accurate measure of how succesful the team he represents has been.

If Chelsea win the FA Cup this year you wouldn't say Hiralio (or however it's spelt) is a brilliant goalkeeper.

Hargreaves all day, every day but luckily for city, it turned out to be a wasted 20 mill for the scum as tendonitis does not go away it just eases off now and again

I think he's a good player and seems a decent bloke but he's becoming something of an Urban Myth! At WC2006 he played 8 minutes of the first two matches. He played the next two but was so anonymous that he doesn't get a single mention in the BBC match reports.

His reputation is built on the stamina he showed after shrek got sent off against Portugal. When most players tired he was all over the place - and he capped it off by being the only English player to score in the shoot out.

When Stephen Ireland's 'in the mood' he's better than all three of them!

Susceptability to injury is part of the package and has to be taken into consideration when deciding.

Barry wins all ways up.

Just having a debut with two Rags from work over whose better out of Barry,Fletcher and Hargvreaves. In my opion Barrys class and miles better then the pair of them rags!!! Thoughts?

A fit Hargreaves is one of the best midfielders in the world! He was Englands best player in 2006 World Cup! Fletcher is a very good player, not great, yet, but very good! He wouldnt be a United regular midfield starter in 3 Prem title winning years and 2 Champs Lg Final years if he wasnt (as much as many of us Blues would like to think the opposite!)!

Carrick is also a very good player! in fact of the 4 id rate all three of the United lads ahead of Barry as Barry is too inconsistent with the amount of his high level performaces!

The title of the thread made me think about the Ballroom Dancing Couple from " Hi De Hi".

Gareth Barry is a top class performer and always consistent.

Fletcher over the past two years has almost turned into a World Beater.

Hargreaves. Vastly underrated for most of his career and like a few on hear already I was gutted when he signed for the Rags.

If a gun is pointing at me and I have to choose then its Fletcher. Sorry.

How many times!

He only played three of the five games and was nothing special in two of those games. He had a good last hour against Portugal but the "best player stuff" was essentially a "media story" as it fitted with the narrative. We went out with him fighting for the cause when others failed - a german based player scored our only penalty - it then fed into the long running story about signing for the Rags.
