Barry or Fernando, Milner or Delph ?

I was actually impressed with fernamdo earlier in the season but he plays so little game time he is hard to judge so Barry for me, delph and Milner can't be compared really, in the middle delph out wide Milner

Why Barry or Fernando? Surely it should be Barry or Fernandinho?

By the same token it should be Sterling or Milner.

Barry would look absolutely embarrassing if he was played in our midfield "system" as it now is. That's not aimed as a criticism of him, but whoever we ask to play in our suicidal midfield has to cover an unreasonable amount of ground, something no one can realistically do, but Barry really can't do. It would be like watching England v Germany every week.

Terrible thread is terrible...

....

...Barry and Milner. Thanks for making me feel dirty haha

Player scores a goal and suddenly there is a thread bemoaning us ever getting rid.

The fact he wanted out has nothing to do with it of course.

Should really be Barry or Garcia, Fernando, Fernandinho as these players were bought for his position and none of them have adequately replaced him.

Admittedly Yaya has got older but we certainly never had issue's playing 442 in 2011/12.

Barry is probably too old now for us but its surprising how we have struggled to find an adequate replacement.

Sometimes particularly in centre mid, centre half buying a player with experience of the english game, used to the style of play etc can prove extremely beneficial. Gaz Baz as well as being an extremely talented footballer through experience was ideally equipped for that role.

Fernandinho hasn't adequately replaced him? Really?

Fernando replaced Garcia who replaced De Jong, nothing to do with Barry.

are you for real???? barry or dinho??? it's not even a contest tbh here

What are you talking about?

I'm saying that the comparison shouldn't be between Barry and Fernando.

The comparison should be between Barry and Fernandinho

Understand?

No Fernandinho has not adequately replaced him. Fernandinho is a good player but does not have the same skill set as Barry.

When we played 4-4-2 Barry sat and Yaya was the player who pushed on. That is now Fernandinihos role but in all honesty more a box to box type midfielder. Its not his fault just the policy of buying players regardless of the effect on balance.

Case in point being the Hull (early september) and game against the Czech Zide in the Champs lge they were running through the centre of mid. Very different to how teams attacked prior to Barry leaving and in my opinion this is still a problem now.

Yaya used to be capable of dominating in a two man midfield, now he can't even compete. That's not because of his partner, that's because of his age. If Barry played alongside Yaya nowadays we would get absolutely humiliated.

I accept your point, I think Barry reads a game better and has a better passing range however I don't think Barry had the legs to partner Toure any longer, Fernandinho had and it was his introduction into the team which allowed Yaya the freedom to do his thing. In the system we play under Pellegrini it was the right move as Barry would have been skinned alive in this system.

Its become worse, I agree, and Yayas age has exacerbated it, but we did have the same problem in 2013/14. Very open at times centrally.
