Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Too open in midfield. Laporte needs to improve. Basel are a decent team, and they got the measure of Zinchenko early on. However I am glad Pep kept the kids on to give them the experience and the chance to get a result, it is invaluable experience and they will improve.
Not bothered about records, it's trophies that count, and we're in the next round.
To all the moaners, Cheer up you f**kers!

Our standards should be far higher than just thinking great we are through, so what if we lost.

I am pretty sure Pep will be going home tonight not happy at all with that result and performance.

I just don’t understand why we should have the mentality of throwing games.

Football is all about momentum and that game has done nothing positive for the team at all.

Winning teams don’t get tired.
This

bernardo is looking sharp, laporte is absolute class and yaya is beyond finish (without the ball). nothing to complain about...

Well similar story with the changed team. Never good to lose but we did the job in the 1st leg. Really liked our goal. Game time for the kids. Looking forward to the quarters.

Result meant nothing but some players need to have long hard look at themselves. Yaya is Yaya at this stage of his career and I don't include the kids in the criticsm but Stones, Danilo and Gundogan need a fucking rocket up their arse. If Sane can be up for it and the likes of Diaz can come on and clearly look up for it, why does someone like Gundogan think it's acceptable to try as hard as he can to not get involved? Fucking walking around the middle of the park. God only knows what the frig has happened to Stones. Job done but it really is Groundhog Day every time we rest players, I've seen that performance so many times over the years, hell I've seen it enough this season....Wolves, Leicester, Bristol.

Ok, we lost but we are through without injuries and gave some players some needed gametime. Those who were booing need a slap. Ok, we were really comical in defence.
Danilo should never be anywhere near the first team, he is like someone who’s won a raffle to play for us.
Stones was shocking at times.
As I have said on numerous occasions, the inability to put the ball away cost is.
Possession counts for fcuk all if you don’t score more than the opposition.

Seriously it was sooooo fucking boring and shit. Players were awful !! not because of the loss but passing the ball all the time like turtles but no chances created this feeling that you can play the whole night but nothing will come!!! should be a reminder a fourt loss against a team who wanted to play. Dèja vu !

A reality check ... otherwise out next round.

btw Toure is a disgrace
Laporte needs to play harder otherwise would be a Stone 2.0
Zinchenko meh ... even if some keep hyping him
Sane Silva Ok
Phoden still a lot to improve
GJ need to play more

Job done but every time we play a weaken team they are wank.
Proves how much this side relies on KDB and Silva.
Can't keep a clean sheet if Stones plays.
Problem today was that Yaya just isn't quick enough for that position anymore.
No protection for the defence and Stones needs more games.

No real desire from the players to get the ball forward quickly, far too many sideways passes and a lack of urgency to get past Basel's defence and turn them.

Sane our only forward who impressed, Foden, well he's young is all I can say, otherwise a forgettable performance, Bernardo barely saw him in the second half, did a good disappearing act, Yaya, did the simple passes well, but that's it really, Zinchenko was disappointing overall, Diaz played well for the short time he was on, only Sane stood out really.

Not the best of performances and there aren't many positives from the defeat but at least we are through to the next round.
Well, apart from the experience a group of young players got, and the good run out against a half way decent team, and 90 minutes int9 the legs of the likes of our two CBs, Foden, Jesus, I guess you’re right...no positive take aways from a dead rubber CL game.

Thank god we haven’t lost too many games this season, otherwise the Manchester Suicide Hotline would be overwhelmed.

Pep will use this as an excellent teaching moment, which is what it was. Nobody likes to lose, but when you can play all your squad players, get good minutes into some very young youngsters in a Champions League Round of 16 game, you HAVE TO see positives.

Put it this way...Spurs only needed to draw less than 2-2, they put out their absolute best team, and couldn’t pull it off. We just strolled into the CL QF (top 8 teams in Europe) with 9 changes to the team.

Context is everything.

Jesus played his first full game since a long term injury (in a game that didn't really matter as we were through).....and some call him playing shit. :/

Bernardo and Sané were a level above everyone else on that pitch.

I agree a win would carry on the positive mindset. The only positive to look at is that Diaz and Foden get more game time. But were through - so on-wards and upwards. As for the bell ends that booed - do one.
