BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2012

Unfortunately yet another tradition that has been ruined and tainted by an internet campaign to vote for someone who did not deserve the title. I am not referring to this year but to 2009, the year SPOTY became irrelevant.

To be fair, I don't think the winners have ever been the important thing about the show and the majority of people will probably disagree more often than not.

Was Princess Anne really the best sportsperson of 1976?
Or Greg Rudeski the year he won it?
I know for a fact Ryan fucking Giggs wasn't.

To me, as someone who loves sport, it's a great watch and I would be quite happy if it was just a review of the year without any awards.

It's virtually impossible to say x is a better defender than y is a forward, just talking about football. So it's almost pointless trying to decide if someone is a better cyclist than someone else is, a runner. But it's a bit of fun and gives the programme a natural conclusion.

The strange thing is with SPOTY is that we all got used to the plucky loser, now we are good at stuff again and winning I think people get a bit muddles up and still go for the lucky loser. Christ know what these people did last night

Have to say I'm surprised at some of the mean-spiritedness on here. If you knew it was going to be centred on the Olympics, don't bleeding watch it.

I was actually amazed that us winning the Prem got such a fantastic mention and the Poznan just made me laugh out loud, together with the superb blue lighting in the arena at the time. Nice to see Natalie P as well. Obviously in a year bereft of anything decent happening we would have been in a shout for team of the year (and possibly Bobby for coach, for clawing back 8 points and dealing with the Carlos fiasco) but I thought it was great tele and always love a good review of the year.

As for Coe's award, I think that actually it was a symbolic one to put the stamp on the Olympics as a whole, and say we did it, we did it our way and wasn't it fantastic.

And to think that corrupt bunch of bastards at FIFA think Russia can put on a better World Cup than us is just hysterical.

I've laid Mo Farah to be in the top 3 at just over 1/2 and had a small interest on Weir at a big price to be in top 3. Think it'll be.

Wiggo
Ennis
Murray
Can you tell me the numbers for the Wednesday lottery ?

Hear, Hear.

The best olympics of the modern era without doubt.

It shows up FIFA for what they are.

The football world cup isn't coming back to the Uk certainly in my lifetime.

He's done really well since he left Everton. I thought that was the end for him.

Really think he hasn't the legs any more for professional football though.

A very strange decision to give the team of the year award to the Olympic team.

In the BBC's own rules of what the award is for, they actually use the Olympic Team as an example of who is NOT eligible and then give it them anyway.
They also have a rule saying they can change a rule if the majority agree on the change, seriously.
