My dear friend Gareth Brooks is currently fighting bowel cancer. Some of you might know him as he's a presenter on XFM Manchester. He's also a huge blue.

Even our own captain Vinny is growing his in Gareth's honour. Thought it might be interesting to see if any other Blues want to get on board.

im up for that!!

Good on you mate. It's a nasty fucking disease, and having lost someone my age to it earlier this year I'm really praying Gareth gets through this.

Thanks lads. He'll appreciate it. Think there's going to be something in the MEN tomorrow about beardsagainstthecancer too.

I'm friends with him on Facebook and he's going through a lot. Admitted to hospital this morning with chest pains.

I've seen family members go through chemo, with a 50% success rate, so I know how bad it can be.

It's great that he's being so open about it so people know more about this treatment because unless you know someone who's gone through it, it's a complete unknown.

Best of luck to him, I hope that beard's coming off soon.

And with regards bowel cancer, that's what Bobby Moore died off. He felt embarassed to go to the doctors about his symptoms. I was at an event where his widow Stephanie was speaking about it, and she said if only he'd have gone to the doctors earlier, he would still be around. I'll echo her words and say if you have anything wrong at all, get it checked out as soon as possible.

Aye he's been a trooper about it. He's still got his sense of humour which is under the circumstances is amazing.

Much appreciated.

It can be beaten. It is a horrible illness but if its of any encouragement to Gareth or anyone else I'm a survivor of fourteen years now.
I have to say at that time love, luck and laughter played a big part for me.
I hope he responds well to his treatment mate.

My best wishes to Gareth and his family for a speedy recovery.
